Alycia's Boxing Journey
Starting Her Professional Career
Alycia Baumgardner began her professional boxing career on March 4, 2017. Her first fight was against Britain Hart. Alycia won quickly, stopping her opponent in the very first round. She continued to win her next few fights just as fast. She often won by "technical knockout" (TKO), which means the referee stops the fight because one boxer cannot continue safely.
On February 10, 2018, Alycia fought for her first professional championship. She won the vacant WBC International super featherweight title. This was a big step in her career. Later that year, on July 28, 2018, she faced Christina Linardatou and had her first professional loss.
After that loss, Alycia came back strong. She won her next three fights, two of them by quick knockouts. She showed everyone that she was a determined boxer.
Becoming a Unified Champion
Fighting Terri Harper
In October 2021, Alycia had a major fight against Terri Harper. Harper held the WBC and IBO female super featherweight titles. The fight happened in Sheffield, England. Alycia won by TKO in the fourth round. She landed a powerful punch that made Harper unable to continue. The referee stopped the fight to protect Harper, and many boxing experts praised this decision.
After this impressive win, Alycia signed a deal with Matchroom Boxing, a big boxing promotion company. Her knockout against Terri Harper was even named the "2021 Female Knockout of the Year" by the World Boxing Council!
Defending Her Titles
In April 2022, Alycia defended her WBC and IBO titles for the first time. She fought Edith Soledad Matthysse in Manchester, England. Alycia won the fight by a unanimous decision. This means all the judges agreed that she won every round. She showed great skill and control throughout the match.
Winning More Titles Against Mikaela Mayer
In October 2022, Alycia faced Mikaela Mayer in a huge fight. This match was to unify more titles. Alycia won by a split decision, meaning two judges scored the fight for her, and one for Mayer. With this win, Alycia added the WBO, IBF, and The Ring super featherweight titles to her collection. Boxing experts noted Alycia's fast start and powerful punches helped her win this important match.
Becoming the Undisputed Champion
The Fight for All the Belts
On February 4, 2023, Alycia Baumgardner fought Elhem Mekhaled in New York City. This fight was for the vacant WBA super featherweight title. If Alycia won, she would hold all five major super featherweight titles, becoming the undisputed champion! She knocked Mekhaled down twice in the third round. Alycia won the fight by unanimous decision, making her the undisputed female super featherweight champion of the world. This was a huge achievement in her career.
Rematch with Christina Linardatou
Alycia's first defense as the undisputed champion was against Christina Linardatou. This was a special fight because Linardatou was the only boxer who had ever beaten Alycia in her professional career. The rematch took place on July 15, 2023, in Detroit, Michigan. Alycia won the fight by a clear unanimous decision. This victory showed how much she had grown as a boxer since their first match.
After this fight, there was a temporary concern about a sample taken from Alycia. However, after a full investigation, the WBC announced that Alycia was cleared. They found she did not intentionally use any banned substances. In March 2024, she was officially allowed to return to boxing.
