Alycia Jasmin Debnam-Carey (born on July 20, 1993) is a talented actress from Australia. She first appeared in a short film called Martha's New Coat in 2003. Her first big movie role was in the disaster film Into the Storm in 2014.

From 2014 to 2016, Alycia played Lexa in the science fiction TV series The 100. She also starred as Alicia Clark in the horror drama series Fear the Walking Dead from 2015 to 2022. She even directed an episode of Fear the Walking Dead in its seventh season. In 2023, Alycia played Alice Hart in the Australian drama miniseries The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart. For this role, she was nominated for an AACTA Award for Best Supporting Actress.

Alycia's Early Life and School

Alycia Debnam-Carey was born in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, on July 20, 1993. Her mom, Leone Carey, wrote stories for children's TV shows. Her dad, Jeff Debnam, was a musician. When Alycia and her brother were little, they often helped their mom act out parts of the shows she was writing.

Alycia started acting when she was eight years old. She also studied how to play classical percussion instruments for ten years.

School Days and Music

Alycia went to Newtown High School of the Performing Arts. There, she was a percussionist, meaning she played instruments like drums. In 2010, she worked with the Berlin Philharmonic orchestra. Alycia and about 40 other musicians created a music piece over two weeks. They performed it at the famous Sydney Opera House.

In her last year of high school, Alycia did very well. The NSW Government recognized her for getting top scores in many subjects. She also received an award for her high grades. She was nominated for her achievements in drama and music. After graduating in 2011, she thought about going to the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. However, she decided to focus on becoming an actress instead.

Starting Her Career (2003–2013)

Alycia Debnam-Carey began her acting career at age ten. Her first film was the short drama Martha's New Coat in 2003. In 2006, she appeared in the TV show McLeod's Daughters. She also lent her voice to an animated short film called The Safe House.

Later, she acted in the TV movie Dream Life and the short film Jigsaw Girl in 2008. She also appeared in other short films like The Branch (2011) and At the Tattooist (2010). In 2010, she was part of a TV pilot called Resistance. She also guest-starred in an episode of the Australian show Dance Academy.

After high school, Alycia decided to move to the U.S. to pursue acting. She started working in Hollywood when she was 18. She was featured in Next Stop Hollywood (2013). This was a documentary series that followed six Australian actors trying to get roles in American TV shows.

While in Los Angeles, Alycia auditioned for a role in The Carrie Diaries. She also tried out for an independent thriller movie. She was close to getting the role in The Carrie Diaries. In 2014, Alycia played a supporting role in the American disaster film Into the Storm. After The Devil's Hand, she was cast in a TV pilot called Galyntine for AMC. However, AMC decided not to make it into a full series.

Alycia then guest-starred in the second season of The CW's show The 100. She first appeared as Lexa in December 2014. Lexa quickly became a very popular character, and this role helped Alycia become widely known.

In December 2014, it was announced that Alycia would be one of the four main actors in AMC's Fear the Walking Dead. She played Alicia Clark. In July 2015, the creator of The 100 announced that Alycia would return for the show's third season. AMC allowed her to film for both shows.

Fear the Walking Dead started airing on August 23, 2015. Alycia appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! to promote the series. In December, The Wrap magazine named her one of the top breakout TV stars of 2015. This was for her work in both The 100 and Fear the Walking Dead. In 2016, she won an MTV Fandom Award for her role as Lexa. She also won E! Online TV Scoop Awards for Best Guest Star and Female Breakout Star.

Alycia received great reviews for her acting as Lexa in The 100. She was also praised for her work in Fear the Walking Dead. Critics said she was a fantastic actress and that her performances made the show even better.

In 2016, Alycia starred as Laura in the German thriller film Friend Request. In 2017, she was cast in the crime drama A Violent Separation (2019). She was nominated for Saturn Awards in 2017 and 2018 for her acting in Fear the Walking Dead. In 2020, she made a special appearance in the final episode of The 100.

In July 2021, it was announced that Alycia would direct an episode of Fear the Walking Dead. She directed the eleventh episode of season seven, titled "Ofelia". Alycia had always been interested in directing since she took a film class in school. In May 2022, she announced that the episode "Amina" was her last on the series.

Recent Projects (2023–Present)

Alycia Debnam-Carey starred as Emily in the eight-part Hulu miniseries Saint X (2023). This was a psychological drama based on a novel.

She also played Alice Hart in The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart. In this Amazon series, she starred alongside Sigourney Weaver. The series was nominated for many awards, and Alycia received a nomination for Best Supporting Actress. In November 2023, Dior announced Alycia as their first Australian ambassador.

In 2024, Alycia appeared in the sci-fi thriller film It's What's Inside. She also co-starred in the 2025 drama series Apple Cider Vinegar for Netflix. This show is based on a true story about health scammers.

She is also set to appear in the 2027 film Godzilla x Kong: Supernova.
