Américo's Musical Journey
Starting Young
Américo began his music career when he was just 8 years old. One day, he had to sing in place of his brother Darwin at the Carnaval del Parque Lauca in Arica. After that, he started performing in local music festivals. When he was 9, he recorded his first album, Para mis padres. Later, as a teenager, he released his second album, Mi colegiala.
Joining the Band Alegría
Américo was discovered by the band Alegría after he released his album Tropicalmente Américo. The band needed a singer, so they invited him to join. With Alegría, Américo recorded 11 albums. Some of these include El nuevo tropical (1997), En vivo, teatro monumental 1 y 2 (1998), and Tu corazón nos pertenece (2000). He sang with them until 2002.
After recording a boleros album called Por una mujer, Américo traveled to Europe in 2003. Many Latin people living there welcomed him. He was invited to perform in countries like Switzerland, Norway, Germany, and Spain.
Américo y La Nueva Alegría
In 2005, Américo formed his own band, Américo y La Nueva Alegría. He soon moved back to Europe and worked with famous musicians. His songs were often played on popular radio stations like Radio Corazón. In 2008, he released his first big hit single, El Embrujo.
After the success of his album Así Es, Américo met Melitón Vera, a well-known manager in Chile.
In 2008, he signed with Feria Music, a record label. With them, he recorded the album A Morir. This album quickly became a gold record, selling 8,000 copies in just a few weeks! In 2009, he went on a tour across Chile. The tour ended in Santiago at the Teatro Caupolicán. There, he sang for the President of Chile Michelle Bachelet and 5,000 other fans. In May of the same year, he began his international career in Peru.
Américo has also recorded songs with other famous artists like Olga Tañón and Luis Jara. He has also released his own versions of popular songs, including Radiohead's Creep and Selena's Amor prohibido.
