Américo's Musical Journey
How Américo Started
Américo began his music career when he was just 8 years old. One day, he had to sing in place of his brother Darwin at the Carnaval del Parque Lauca in Arica. After that, he started performing in local music festivals.
When he was 9, he recorded his first album, Para mis padres. Later, as a teenager, he released his second album, Mi colegiala.
After his album Tropicalmente Américo came out, the band Alegría discovered him. They needed a singer, so they invited Américo to join. With Alegría, he recorded 11 albums, including El nuevo tropical (1997) and En vivo, teatro monumental 1 y 2 (1998). He worked with them until 2002.
In 2003, after recording his boleros album Por una mujer, Américo traveled to Europe. He was welcomed by Latin communities there and visited countries like Switzerland, Norway, Germany, and Spain.
Américo and La Nueva Alegría
In 2005, Américo formed his own group called Américo y La Nueva Alegría. He soon moved back to Europe, where he worked with many well-known musicians. His songs were often played on popular radio stations like Radio Corazón. In 2008, he released his first single, El Embrujo.
After his success with the album Así Es, Américo met Melitón Vera, a famous Chilean music manager.
In 2008, he signed with Feria Music, a record label. With them, he recorded the album A Morir. This album quickly became a gold record, selling 8,000 copies in its first few weeks. In 2009, he went on a tour across Chile. The tour ended at the Teatro Caupolicán in Santiago, where he performed for the President of Chile Michelle Bachelet and 5,000 other people. In May of the same year, he went to Peru to begin his international music career.
Américo performed at the 2010 Viña del Mar International Song Festival on February 25, 2010. His show was a big hit, and he received several awards, including the Silver Torch, Golden Torch, and two Silver Seagulls.
He has recorded songs with other artists like Olga Tañón, Luis Jara, and Los Nocheros. He has also released cover versions of songs, including Radiohead's Creep and Selena's Amor prohibido.
