Early Life and Education
Amado Boudou was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1962. He grew up in the coastal city of Mar del Plata. He studied at the National University of Mar del Plata, where he earned a degree in economics in 1986. During his student years, he was known for being social and enjoyed playing the bass guitar. He even helped organize rock concerts in Mar del Plata.
After his first degree, Boudou continued his studies in economics. He earned a master's degree from the Argentine Macroeconomic Studies Center (CEMA). This university is known for its focus on free market ideas.
First Jobs and Businesses
Boudou started his career as a salesman for a sanitation services company called Venturino Ehisur S.A. He helped the company get important contracts with hospitals. Because of his success, he became the general manager of their government contracts office in 1992. However, the company closed in 1995.
After that, he co-founded another sanitation company called Ecoplata S.A. He worked as a project manager there. Ecoplata won contracts to provide sanitation services for popular resort towns like Villa Gesell and Pinamar.
Entering Public Service
In 1998, Amado Boudou began working for the government. He was appointed to the Comptroller's Office of the National Social Security Administration (ANSES). In 2001, he became the general manager of that office.
Later, he became the Finance Secretary for the La Costa District, a popular resort area. In this role, he helped bring a federal housing plan to La Costa in 2005. This plan provided funding for new homes for people with lower incomes.
National Government Roles
In January 2006, Boudou returned to ANSES, the national social security agency. He became its financial director, a very important position. He helped manage the transfer of many private pension accounts to ANSES. In October 2008, he was appointed the director of ANSES.
Minister of Economy
In July 2009, Amado Boudou became the Minister of Economy for Argentina. This happened after the previous minister resigned. As Minister of Economy, he faced challenges from the 2008 financial crisis.
He worked on ways for the Argentine government to manage its finances. He also presented a plan in 2010 to help manage Argentina's foreign debt. This plan aimed to resolve issues with bondholders who had not agreed to earlier debt restructuring plans.
Political Aspirations
In December 2010, Boudou announced that he wanted to become the Mayor of Buenos Aires. He was a candidate in the primary elections for the Front for Victory party. However, Senator Daniel Filmus was chosen as the candidate instead.
Vice Presidency

In 2011, Amado Boudou was chosen to be the running mate for President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner in the elections. During the campaign, he was known for playing his bass guitar and acting as a DJ at rallies. They won the election in October with a large percentage of the votes.
As Vice President, Boudou sometimes took on presidential duties. For example, he served as acting president for about twenty days in January 2012 when President Fernández de Kirchner had surgery. He also took over for 42 days in October 2013 when the President had another surgery.
Legal Challenges
After his time as Vice President, Amado Boudou faced legal challenges. In 2012, accusations arose about contracts given to a company called Ciccone Printing. These contracts were for printing money and license plates. There were claims that Boudou had a hidden interest in the company.
In 2014, he was formally accused of certain offenses related to these matters. The case continued for several years. In August 2018, a court made a decision in the case. He was prevented from holding public office again.
Boudou has stated that he believes he was unfairly targeted. He claims that the accusations against him were part of a political campaign.
