Gabriela Michetti is an Argentine politician who served as the Vice President of Argentina from 2015 to 2019. She held this important role during the time Mauricio Macri was president. She was the second woman in history to become Vice President of Argentina.

She was the Deputy Chief of Government in Buenos Aires from 2007 to 2009. She also served as a National Deputy from 2009 to 2013 and a National Senator for the City of Buenos Aires from 2013 to 2015.

Early Life and Education
Gabriela Michetti was born in 1965 in Laprida, a town in the Buenos Aires Province. Her family has Italian roots.
She went to the Universidad del Salvador in Buenos Aires. In 1988, she earned a degree in International Relations. This means she studied how different countries work together.
Political Journey
Michetti started working in public service in 1989. The next year, she joined the team at the Argentine Ministry of Economy. She worked as a technical adviser there. Even though she was a professional, she was also involved in politics. She worked on social projects through her church.
Starting in Buenos Aires Politics
In 2003, Michetti joined the Commitment to Change party. This party later became part of the PRO movement. That same year, she was elected to the Buenos Aires City Legislature. Here, she led her party's group.
She became well-known in 2006. She led a committee that investigated a serious nightclub fire. This investigation helped bring about changes in the city government.
In 2007, Michetti was chosen to run alongside Mauricio Macri. They ran for the top jobs in Buenos Aires City. They won, and Michetti became the first woman elected Deputy Mayor of Buenos Aires. In this role, she helped lead new projects for the city. She also worked on a commission to help people with disabilities.
Moving to National Politics
In 2009, Michetti decided to run for a seat in the Argentine Congress. She resigned from her role as Deputy Head of Government. She then led the PRO party's list of candidates for national deputies from Buenos Aires.
She served as a National Deputy from 2009 to 2013. After that, she became a National Senator for the City of Buenos Aires, serving from 2013 to 2015.
Becoming Vice President of Argentina
In 2015, Gabriela Michetti ran for Vice President with Mauricio Macri. They were part of the Cambiemos political alliance.

On November 22, 2015, Macri and Michetti won the election. This was the first time in Argentina's history that a presidential election was decided by a second round of voting (called a "ballotage").
Michetti officially took office as Vice President on December 10, 2015. She took an oath in front of the President and other important leaders.

As Vice President, she worked with many non-governmental organizations (NGOs). She helped them achieve their goals. For example, she spoke at the South American Business Forum in 2008 and 2009.
During her time as Vice President, she made some changes in the Senate. For example, she limited how much cash legislators could receive for travel.
Personal Life
Gabriela Michetti has one son. She has been in a long relationship with journalist Eduardo Cura.
In 1994, she was in a car accident. This accident caused serious injuries that left her using a wheelchair.
