Amanda Bearse (born August 9, 1958) is an American actress, comedian, and director. She is well-known for her role in the 1985 horror film Fright Night. Later, she became famous as Marcy Rhoades D'Arcy in the TV show Married... with Children, which ran from 1987 to 1997. After acting, Bearse started working as a television director. She has directed over 90 episodes of different comedy shows.

Early Life and Education

Amanda Bearse grew up in Winter Park, Florida. She finished Winter Park High School in 1976. After high school, her family moved to Atlanta.

She went to several colleges, including Rollins College and Young Harris College. At Young Harris College, she earned an associate of arts degree. Amanda also studied acting in New York City. She learned from a famous teacher named Sanford Meisner at the Neighborhood Playhouse.

Acting Career Highlights

Amanda Bearse started her TV career in 1982. She played Amanda Cousins in the soap opera All My Children until 1983. In 1985, she got a big role in the horror film Fright Night. She played the main female character, Amy Peterson.

A year later, she appeared in the TV drama Hotel. In 1987, she joined the cast of Married... with Children. This show was a very popular comedy on the Fox Network. Amanda played Marcy Rhoades, who was the neighbor of the main family. The show ran for ten years, becoming one of the longest-running sitcoms ever.

Directing Television Shows

While she was still acting on Married... with Children, Amanda Bearse started learning about directing. She studied at the American Film Institute. From 1991 to 1997, she directed 31 episodes of Married... with Children.

After that, she directed many other popular TV shows. Some of these include Reba, Mad TV, and Dharma & Greg. She also directed an episode of Jesse in 1999. This show starred Christina Applegate, who was her co-star on Married... with Children. In 2007, she helped create and direct The Big Gay Sketch Show.

Recent Acting Roles

In the 1990s, Amanda Bearse mostly focused on directing. She acted in only two films during that time. She returned to acting in 2011. She appeared in two episodes of the TV show Drop Dead Diva.

In 2020, she starred in a German comedy horror film called Sky Sharks. This was her first movie role in 25 years. More recently, in 2022, Amanda Bearse played the mother of Luke Macfarlane's character in the romantic comedy film Bros.

Personal Life

Amanda Bearse has a daughter named Zoe.
