Amarok is a special computer program that plays music. It works best with the KDE desktop environment. KDE is a popular way your computer's screen and programs look and feel.
Amarok is different from most KDE programs. It has its own schedule for new versions. This means a new Amarok might not come out when a new KDE version does. The first stable version of Amarok was released in 2003.

What Can Amarok Do?
Amarok is great for playing many kinds of sound files. It can play music in formats like MP3, Ogg Vorbis, and WMA. These are common ways music files are saved.
Music Features
- Amarok has an internet radio tuner. This lets you listen to radio stations online.
- It can also send your music choices to Last.fm. This helps Last.fm suggest new music you might like.
- You can use Amarok to put music on most MP3 players. This includes devices like the iPod or ZEN.
Amarok's Different Versions
Amarok has been updated over the years. A big update happened when KDE changed from version 3 to version 4. This meant Amarok also got a new version, called Amarok 2.
Changes in Amarok
The newer Amarok 2 (for KDE4) is a bit different. It might not have all the same features as the older version. But it also has some new things that the old one didn't. The people who make Amarok are always working hard. They want to make sure the newer Amarok is even better for everyone.
