Amasa-Villabona is a charming village in the Basque Country, Spain. It's home to over 5,500 people. The village is part of the Tolosaldea comarca (a type of local region) in the Gipuzkoa province.
Amasa-Villabona has two main parts. Villabona is the more urban area, located close to the Oria River. Amasa is a rural area, and it's where the village originally started. The village is nestled in the beautiful Oria Valley, surrounded by mountains like Gazume and Uzturre. It's only about 20 kilometers away from San Sebastián, the capital city of the province.

History of Amasa-Villabona
The village first grew around the Amasa Quarter, which is in the highest part of Amasa-Villabona. In 1619, the two settlements, Amasa and Villabona, decided to create one shared town council. This helped them work together to manage their community.
Important Buildings
The Parish Church of San Martín de Tours stands in Amasa. This church was built over many years, between the 16th and 18th centuries. It has a very interesting and beautiful high altarpiece inside. Close to the church, you can find the Hermitage of Santa Cruz. This hermitage was the very first parish church in the area.

Amasa-Villabona is a great place for visitors who love nature and the outdoors. There are many agrotourism lodgings, which are places to stay on farms. These offer lots of fun activities for families and young people. The main reason tourists visit is to enjoy the beautiful rural and mountain scenery.
Unique Basque Sports
The village is also known for its sports. There are two special competitions of rebote held in July and September. Rebote is a unique style of Basque pelota, a traditional Basque sport. This specific style of rebote is only played in Amasa-Villabona and in a nearby place called Zubieta.
Local Government
The local government of Amasa-Villabona is led by a mayor. From 2003 to 2007, the mayor of the town was Bakartxo Tejeria. She later became the President of the Basque Parliament in 2012, which is a very important leadership role in the Basque Country. The current mayor is Beatriz Unzue Esnaola, representing the Bildu party.
