History of Amber
How Amber Got Its Name
The area where Amber is today was first settled in the 1890s. A man named Samuel Calvert moved there, and because of him, both the community and the nearby lake were originally called Calvert.
The Post Office and Name Change
Things changed in 1909 when Bartley Costello set up a post office nearby. He decided to name this new post office "Amber." This post office helped people send and receive mail for many years, staying open until 1975.
During the 1910s, the community decided to change its name from Calvert to Amber. They did this to make sure there was no confusion with mail delivery. By having the town and the post office share the same name, it made sending and receiving letters much easier and faster for everyone. The lake's name was also changed to Amber Lake around this time.
