Amber Dawn Coffman, born on June 15, 1984, is an American singer and songwriter. She lives in Los Angeles, California. Before that, she lived in Brooklyn, New York.
Amber used to play guitar for a band called Sleeping People. Later, she became a guitarist and singer for the indie rock band Dirty Projectors. In June 2017, she released her first solo album, called City of No Reply.

Early Life
Amber Coffman grew up in different places, including Ohio, Texas, and California. She went to 11 different schools!
When she was young, she loved the women singers in 1990s R&B music. As a teenager, she became interested in rock music.
Music Career
When Amber was a teenager living in San Diego, she worked at a grocery store. At the same time, she played guitar in an instrumental band called Sleeping People. This band played a type of music known as math rock.

Dirty Projectors
When Amber was 22, she moved to New York. She joined the band Dirty Projectors as a guitarist and singer. Her first tour with them was in 2006 for their album Rise Above.
She continued to work with the band on many projects. These included the albums Bitte Orca (2009) and Swing Lo Magellan (2012). She also worked on an album with the famous singer Björk called Mount Wittenberg Orca (2010). This album was inspired by Amber seeing Orcas (killer whales) off the coast of California.
Many people noticed Amber's singing. Her "soft, silky voice" was a highlight on popular songs like "Stillness Is the Move" from Bitte Orca. Her voice helped the band's unique sound become more popular.
Solo Work
Even while she was with Dirty Projectors, Amber kept making her own music. She started writing songs for a solo album in 2011. Her first solo album, City of No Reply, came out on June 2, 2017.
Other Collaborations
Amber has also worked with other musicians. In 2010, she sang on the song "Hold On" with electronic artist Rusko. She also worked with Diplo from Major Lazer on the song "Get Free" in 2012.
In 2013, she was featured on the hip hop artist J. Cole's song "She Knows". This song was on his album Born Sinner. She also collaborated with Snoop Lion and T.I. on a song called "No Regrets" in 2012.
Amber also sang on a song called "Cool It Down" with rapper Riff Raff. This song was on his album Neon Icon. She also sang on Frank Ocean's song "Nikes", which was the first song from his album Blonde.
