The American Girl series is a popular collection of novels. These books are based on the famous American Girl dolls. They tell stories about different American girls living in various times in history. Some stories are also set in modern times.

The books and dolls are part of a special fictional universe. This means all the characters and their stories connect in a big, imaginary world. The series started in 1986 and is still publishing new books today.

The main historical novels are called the Central Series. Each character in this series has her own set of books. There is also the Girl of the Year line. These characters live in today's world.

American Girl also released a related series called History Mysteries. These books were published from 1999 to 2004. They featured exciting mystery stories set in different historical periods.
