Ami Yuasa (湯浅 亜実), known simply as Ami, is a super talented Japanese breakdancer. She was born on December 11, 1998. Ami is an Olympic gold medalist, which is a huge achievement in the world of breaking! She has won many major competitions, including the Red Bull BC One world championship twice. She also won the WDSF World Breaking Championships in both 2019 and 2022. Ami is a proud member of the Good Foot Crew, a group of amazing dancers.

Ami's Early Life and Training

Ami Yuasa grew up in Kawaguchi, a city in Saitama Prefecture, Japan. She started learning hip hop dance when she was in first grade. Her older sister, Ayu, who is four years older, inspired her to start dancing. When Ami was in fifth grade, she began learning breaking, which is a style of street dance.

Ami's Amazing Breaking Career

Ami's career in breaking has been full of incredible wins and achievements.

Winning World Championships

In April 2018, Ami won the B-Girl World Final of the Red Bull BC One competition. This big event was held in Zurich, Switzerland. The next year, in 2019, she won the very first WDSF World Breaking Championship. This competition took place in Nanjing, China.

Ami continued her winning streak in September 2019. She won the 1st World Urban Championship in Budapest, Hungary. In November 2020, she also won the 2nd All Japan Breaking Championship in the B-Girl division.

More Podium Finishes

In 2021, Ami was the runner-up at the 3rd WDSF World Breaking Championship. This event was held in Paris, France. Even though she didn't win first place that time, she shared the podium with her sister, Ayu, who came in third. It was a special moment for both of them!

Gold Medals and Olympic Glory

Ami competed at the 2022 World Games in the dancesport competition. She won the gold medal in the B-Girls event, showing off her incredible skills. In October 2022, she won the 4th WDSF World Breaking Championships. This was her second time winning this title, after her first win in 2019.

Ami represented Japan in Breaking at the 2024 Summer Olympics. She performed brilliantly and won the gold medal! This made her an Olympic champion. Dominika Banevič from Lithuania earned the silver medal in the same event.
