Amount of substance (also called chemical amount) is a way to measure how many tiny particles are in a group. Imagine you have a huge number of very small things, like atoms, molecules, or electrons. The amount of substance helps us count them.
The International System of Units (SI), which is a worldwide system for measurements, says that the amount of substance is exactly the number of these tiny particles. The special unit for amount of substance is the mole (mol).

What is a Mole?
A mole is like a super-sized "dozen" for chemists! When you buy a dozen eggs, you get 12 eggs. When a chemist has one mole of a substance, they have a specific, very large number of particles.
How Many Particles are in a Mole?
One mole of any substance always contains the same number of particles. This number is called Avogadro's number. It's a huge number: about 602,214,179,000,000,000,000,000!
We write this number in a shorter way as 6.022 x 1023. This means 6.022 followed by 23 zeros.
Why Do We Need the Mole?
Atoms and molecules are incredibly tiny. Even a small drop of water contains trillions of water molecules. It would be impossible to count them one by one.
