How Amy's Candy Bar Started
Amy Hansen, the owner, finished school in 2006. She studied at the French Pastry School in Chicago. Before opening the candy store, Amy worked in marketing. In 2010, she decided to follow her dream. She wanted to open her own candy shop.
Amy got some help to start her business. The Chicago city government gave her a special grant. She also got a small business loan. This money helped her pay for starting costs. It also helped her make the store look amazing inside.
In June 2011, Amy's Candy Bar opened its doors. It is located on Damen Avenue in the Ravenswood neighborhood. The store looks like a fancy European shop. Glass jars filled with colorful candies line the walls.
Delicious Treats They Sell
Amy's Candy Bar has lots of different sweets. They sell over 200 kinds of candies! You can find chocolate, gummies, and licorice there. Many of their candies come from other countries. They import treats from places like Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands.
Amy Hansen also makes some special treats herself. She makes delicious caramels and nougat right in the store. Her caramel recipe was inspired by her pastry school days. It uses special butter from Europe, sea salt, and organic cream. These homemade caramels are a big favorite!
Besides candy, the store also sells ice cream. You can also order custom baked goods. They make yummy sugar cookies and cupcakes for special events.
