Anastasia Golovina (Bulgarian: Анастасия Головина) was a very important person in Bulgarian history. She was the first Bulgarian female doctor. She was also known as Anastassya Nikolau Berladsky-Golovina and Atanasya Golovina. She lived from 1850 to 1933.

Her Early Life and Education

Anastasia Golovina was born in a city called Kishinev. She was a very bright student.

Becoming the First Bulgarian Woman Doctor

She went to study at the famous Sorbonne university in Paris, France. In 1878, she finished her studies. She wrote a special paper for her doctorate called "Histological examination of the walls of the arteries." This paper was about studying the tiny parts of blood vessels. A famous scientist named Jean Charcot was very impressed by her work.

Anastasia Golovina was the first Bulgarian woman ever to graduate from a university. This was a huge achievement for women at that time.

Her Work as a Doctor

After her studies, Anastasia Golovina worked in hospitals and schools. She was a specialist in internal diseases, which means she treated illnesses inside the body. She was also a psychiatrist, helping people with their mental health.

In the 1870s, she was interested in ideas for social change in Bulgaria and Russia. She wanted to help make things better for people.
