Presidential Election and Key Roles

In the 2004 Ukrainian presidential election, Anatoliy Kinakh ran for President of Ukraine. He was chosen by the Party of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Ukraine. He has led this party since 2000. A main idea in his election plan was to focus on Ukraine's own choices in foreign policy. He said that joining the European Union should not stop Ukraine from having good relationships with other countries. This included countries in the Commonwealth of Independent States and also Russia.

During the election, Kinakh disagreed with the government's chosen candidate, Viktor Yanukovych. He said that no criminal should be President of Ukraine. Later, he took an active part in the Orange Revolution. This was a series of protests. He supported the opposition leader Viktor Yushchenko, who later became president. Kinakh was then made the First Vice Prime Minister in the first government led by Yulia Tymoshenko. On September 27, 2005, Kinakh became the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine.

Kinakh was also a key person on the list for the pro-presidential group Our Ukraine–People's Self-Defense Bloc. This was during the 2006 Ukrainian parliamentary election.

In March 2007, he became the Minister of Economics. This was in the government of Viktor Yanukovych. This decision was against the wishes of the Our Ukraine–People's Self-Defense Bloc. Because of this, the Our Ukraine group decided to remove Anatoliy Kinakh from their group. President Viktor Yushchenko also ordered him to be removed from the National Security and Defense Council.

In the early 2007 Ukrainian parliamentary election on September 30, 2007, his party joined with the Party of Regions, led by Yanukovych. Kinakh was elected to parliament again. He became a full member of the Party of Regions in October 2008. In 2012, he was re-elected to parliament. He was on the party list of the Party of Regions.

On February 25, 2014, Kinakh and 32 other former Party of Regions members created a new group in parliament. This group was called Economic Development.

In the 2014 Ukrainian parliamentary election, Kinakh tried to win a seat in Mykolaiv. He ran as an independent candidate, meaning he was not part of a specific party. However, he did not win. He came in second place with about 12.77% of the votes. The winner was Borys Kozyr of the Petro Poroshenko Bloc.

Kinakh did not take part in the 2019 Ukrainian parliamentary election.
