Anatone (pronounced 'ae-nuh-tone') is a very small community in the northwest United States. It is located in Asotin County, Washington. Anatone is an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and businesses that are not part of an official city or town government.
Because it is so small, the U.S. Census doesn't track its population. However, the people living in Anatone count themselves each summer. They update a sign with the latest number! In 2010, about 38 people lived in the town of Anatone. The area served by the Anatone Post Office had about 221 people in 2000. Anatone has its own ZIP code, 99401.
History of Anatone
Anatone was first settled in 1878. The first settlers were Daniel McIvor and Charles Isecke. The community was named after a woman from the Nez Perce tribe.
Life in Anatone
Anatone is mainly a farming area. People there work hard, mostly growing wheat. You won't find many shops or services in Anatone itself.
The community is located near the point where three states meet: Idaho, Oregon, and Washington. It is about 24 miles (39 km) south of Clarkston. You can reach it by driving on State Route 129.
Just 4 miles (6.4 km) south of Anatone on State Route 129 is Fields Spring State Park. This park is a great place to visit for outdoor activities.
