Andeer is a small town, also called a municipality, in Switzerland. It's located in the Viamala Region, which is part of the Graubünden canton. In 2009, two nearby villages, Clugin and Pignia, joined with Andeer.

History of Andeer
Long ago, the Romans were in the Andeer area. They found Roman coins there, showing their presence from about 15 BC. The town might have been called Lapidaria back then. It was an important stop on the road from Italy.
The name Andeer was first written down in the year 1208.
Around 1820, new roads were built. These roads went over the Splügen Pass and the San Bernardino Pass. Later, in the late 1800s, train tunnels were built through the Alps. This meant fewer people traveled through Andeer by road.
But things changed again in 1967. The San Bernardino road tunnel opened. This made Andeer part of a major travel route once more.
Geography of Andeer
Andeer covers an area of about 46.30 square kilometers. A good part of this land, almost 29%, is used for farming. Forests cover nearly half of the area, about 48.5%.
About 3% of the land has buildings or roads. The rest, nearly 20%, is made up of rivers, glaciers, or mountains. These parts are not used for farming or building.
Andeer is located in the Schams valley. This valley is also known as Val Schons in Romansh. The Hinterrhein river flows through it. The town itself is a linear village, meaning it stretches out along a road. You can also find the ruins of Bärenburg castle nearby.
