Andik Vermansah is an Indonesian professional football player. He plays as a winger for Liga 2 club Persiraja Banda Aceh. Andik was born on November 23, 1991, in Jember, East Java. In 2012, ESPN Soccernet named him one of the top ten Asian players to watch.

Andik's Early Life and Dreams

Andik grew up in Jember, East Java. His father, Saman, was a coolie, and his mother, Jumiah, was a tailor. They were both Javanese. When he was a child, Andik helped his family by selling ice. His parents did not earn much money, so it was hard for them to support his dream of becoming a footballer.

Even though his family faced money problems, Andik was very determined. He did not give up on his dream. To earn money for his football career, he sold cakes and ice. He even played in local village tournaments just to buy a pair of football shoes. Andik got his big chance when a coach named Rudi from SSB Suryanaga noticed his talent. Rudi offered Andik a free spot at a football academy in Jember.

Andik's Club Journey

Starting Out in Football

Andik began his football journey with Persebaya (1927) U-18. In 2007, he helped them win the East Java Regional Youth League. That same year, he also won a gold medal for the city of Surabaya in the Provincial Sports Week.

In 2008, Andik played a big part in helping East Java win a gold medal at the National Sports Week. This important event took place in Kalimantan.

Playing for Persebaya

Andik joined Persebaya after a successful tryout. He showed great potential and skill. At the club, he worked very hard. His speed and dribbling skills impressed many people. Soon, he joined Persebaya's main team. He was only 17 years old, making him one of the youngest players. Andik played his first official game for Persebaya on August 29, 2008. He came on as a substitute in the 77th minute in a 2-0 win against Persekabpas Pasuruan.

Trying Out Overseas

In October 2011, a big Italian club, Inter Milan, showed interest in Andik. On September 7, 2012, Andik went to try out for Major League Soccer team D.C. United in the United States. He played a few games for their reserve team but did not sign a contract. He then returned to Persebaya.

On October 6, 2013, Andik had a trial with Ventforet Kofu in Japan. In his first game for their reserves, he scored a goal against Shimizu S-Pulse. His performance was reported in Japanese newspapers and impressed the 2,000 fans who watched the game.

Moving to Selangor

On December 1, 2013, Andik signed a two-year contract with Malaysia Super League team Selangor. He chose Selangor because they offered him a higher salary than the Japanese club, Ventforet Kofu. His salary was rumored to be around $150,000 per year, which made him one of the highest-paid Indonesian athletes.

Andik played his first game for Selangor in the 2014 Malaysia FA Cup on January 22, 2014. They won 2-0 against Harimau Muda C. On March 25, he scored his first league goal for Selangor in the 2014 Malaysia Super League. Selangor won 2-0 against Sarawak at the Sarawak State Stadium.

Andik helped Selangor FA finish as runner-up in the 2014 Malaysian Super League. He was a key player for Selangor in both the 2014 and 2015 seasons. He also made many assists in the 2014 Malaysian Super League season. He then signed a new contract with Selangor for the 2015 season.

Andik also holds the record for the second-fastest goal in Malaysia Super League history. He scored just 28 seconds into a match against Johor Darul Ta'zim FC. The fastest goal was scored by Ahmad Fakri Saarani in 12 seconds. Andik extended his contract with Selangor FA until 2017. This deal was worth 3 billion Rupiah, making him the highest-paid footballer in Indonesia at that time.

Playing for Kedah

On February 9, 2018, Andik signed with another Malaysia Super League team, Kedah. He was given jersey number 30. Andik played his first league game for Kedah on February 11, 2018, in a 1-0 win against PKNP. On June 22, 2018, Andik scored his first league goal for Kedah against Kuala Lumpur. His team won that game 3-2.

Time with Madura United

On December 24, 2018, Andik signed with Liga 1 club Madura United. He made his debut for Madura United on February 29, 2019, in the 2018–19 Piala Indonesia against Cilegon United. He also scored his first goal for the team in that game, helping them win 2-0 at the Gelora Madura Stadium.

Andik played his first Liga 1 game on May 17, 2019. He started in a 5-1 win against Persela Lamongan at the Surajaya Stadium. On May 24, 2019, Andik scored his first goal for Madura United in a 1-0 victory over Barito Putera at the 17th May Stadium. During his time at Madura United, he played in 24 league games and scored 2 goals.

Joining Bhayangkara

In 2020, Andik signed a one-year contract with Indonesian Liga 1 club Bhayangkara. He made his league debut on March 6, 2020, in a 1-1 draw against Persik Kediri. However, the season was stopped on March 27, 2020, because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The season was later canceled on January 20, 2021.

On August 29, 2021, Andik played his first match in the 2021–22 Liga 1 season for Bhayangkara. He came on as a substitute in the 80th minute in a 2-1 win over Persiraja Banda Aceh. He played the entire game in a win against Bali United on October 23.

On January 14, 2022, he played 84 minutes in a win against Madura United, where he made two assists. On December 5, 2022, Andik scored his first league goal in the 2022–23 Liga 1 for Bhayangkara. It was in a 3-1 victory over PSS Sleman at the Jatidiri Stadium.
