About André Vianco
André Ferreira da Silva was born in São Paulo, Brazil, on January 10, 1975. He grew up in the nearby town of Osasco. He chose his pen name, "Vianco," to honor Dona Primitiva Vianco Street. This was an important street in Osasco where he spent his childhood.
André Vianco always loved horror movies and books. He often mentions Stephen King as a big influence. People sometimes compare his writing to King's style. He also enjoyed books like Musashi by Eiji Yoshikawa and stories by Edgar Allan Poe. Other favorites include Anne Rice's The Vampire Chronicles and old Tales from the Crypt comics.
Early Career and First Books
André Vianco started his career working for a radio station. He was in the journalism department for two years. He also had a part-time job at a credit card company. In 1998, he published his very first novel, O Senhor da Chuva, by himself.
After losing his job at the credit card company, Vianco used some savings to publish his next book. In 1999, he self-published 1,000 copies of Os Sete. This book became his most famous work.
Os Sete and Its Success
Os Sete is mostly set in a made-up coastal town called Amarração in Brazil. The story is about seven vampires from 16th-century Portugal. They wake up in Brazil in the late 1900s after divers find their bodies in a sunken ship.
The book was a huge hit! By 2008, it had sold over 50,000 copies. A publisher called Novo Século Editora noticed the book. They re-released it a year later and published many of Vianco's other works.
Os Sete also led to several other books. These include the sequel Sétimo and the O Turno da Noite trilogy. There's also a prequel graphic novel called Vampiros do Rio Douro. In 2009, Vianco even wrote and directed a TV pilot based on O Turno da Noite. However, it was never made into a full series.
