André Ferreira da Silva, born on January 10, 1975, is a famous Brazilian writer. He is better known by his pen name, André Vianco. A pen name is a special name a writer uses instead of their real name. André Vianco writes exciting stories, especially urban fantasy and horror books. Many of his books feature vampires and other supernatural creatures.

He became very popular in 1999 with his novel Os Sete. By 2016, his books had sold over a million copies! In 2018, he was recognized as one of Brazil's top fantasy writers of the 21st century. Besides writing, he also works as a screenwriter and a director for films and television.

About André Vianco

André Ferreira da Silva was born in São Paulo, Brazil, on January 10, 1975. He grew up in a nearby town called Osasco. He chose "Vianco" as his pen name to honor the street where he lived as a child. This street, Dona Primitiva Vianco, is important in downtown Osasco.

André Vianco always loved horror movies and books. He was inspired by famous authors like Stephen King and Edgar Allan Poe. He also enjoyed The Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice and old Tales from the Crypt comics.

His Writing Journey

André Vianco started his career working for a radio station. He also had a part-time job at a credit card company. In 1998, he published his very first novel, O Senhor da Chuva, by himself.

After losing his job at the credit card company, Vianco used his savings to publish his most famous book, Os Sete, in 1999. He printed 1,000 copies of it.

The Story of Os Sete

Os Sete is a thrilling story mostly set in a fictional town in Brazil. It's about seven vampires from 16th-century Portugal. Their bodies are found by two divers in a sunken ship. This discovery wakes them up in Brazil in the late 20th century.

The book was a huge success! By 2008, it had sold over 50,000 copies. A publishing company, Novo Século Editora, re-released the book a year later. They also published many of Vianco's other works.

Books in the Os Sete World

Os Sete led to more books in the same universe. These include the sequels Sétimo and the O Turno da Noite trilogy. There's also a prequel graphic novel called Vampiros do Rio Douro. A graphic novel is like a comic book but with a longer story.

In 2009, Vianco even wrote and directed a short TV pilot based on the O Turno da Noite trilogy. A TV pilot is a test episode to see if a show will be popular. However, it was not made into a full series.

Other Popular Books

After Os Sete, André Vianco continued to write many exciting books. In 2002, he published the supernatural thrillers Sementes no Gelo and A Casa.

He returned to vampire stories with Bento in 2003. This was the first book in the O Vampiro-Rei series. He followed it with A Bruxa Tereza (2004) and Cantarzo (2005). He also wrote a prequel series called As Crônicas do Fim do Mundo. The first book, A Noite Maldita, came out in 2013. The second, À Deriva, was released in June 2023.

In 2010, Vianco started working with a new publisher, Editora Rocco. He released O Caso Laura with them in 2011. He also published a children's book series called Meus Queridos Monstrinhos, which has three volumes. In 2015, he released the ghost novel Estrela da Manhã.

In 2016, he published his first science fiction novel, Dartana. More recently, in November 2021, Citadel Editora acquired the rights to Vianco's works. They re-issued Bento soon after. In August 2021, Vianco released the audiobook Ao Meu Redor through Storytel.

Film and TV Work

André Vianco has also directed several short films. In 2006, he co-directed A Flor with Wanda Nogueira. His wife, Marisa Samogin, wrote the script for this film. He also directed A Última Partida in 2007 and Saia do Meu Quarto in 2012. These films were produced by Criamundos, a company he started with his wife.

Vianco has mentioned plans to adapt some of his books, like A Casa and Os Sete, into films.

Personal Life

André Vianco lives in Osasco, Brazil. He lives there with his wife, Marisa Samogin, and their three daughters.
