Andre DeAngelo Ellington, born on February 3, 1989, is a former American professional football player. He used to play as a running back in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Clemson Tigers. The Arizona Cardinals chose him in the sixth round of the 2013 NFL draft.

Early Life and High School Sports

Andre Ellington grew up in Moncks Corner, South Carolina. He went to Berkeley High School. There, he was a star player for the Stags football team.

During his senior year, Andre ran for 1,822 yards. He scored 24 touchdowns by running the ball. He also scored four other touchdowns, two from catching passes and two from returning kickoffs. Overall, he gained 2,519 yards in total that year. ESPN thought he was one of the top football players in the country.

Andre also ran track and field at Berkeley High School. He was very fast! He ran the 100 meters in 10.97 seconds. He also ran the 200 meters in 23.13 seconds. He was part of the school's fast 4 × 100 meter relay team.

Many colleges wanted Andre to play for them. He chose Clemson University. Other big schools like Florida and Georgia also offered him scholarships.

Andre Ellington played college football for the Clemson Tigers. He was a very important player for their team.

Starting Out at Clemson (2009-2010)

Andre didn't play in his first year (2008) to save a year of eligibility. This is called "redshirting." In 2009, his first year playing, he gained 546 total yards. He ran for 72 yards in one game against Middle Tennessee.

In 2010, Andre became a key player. He was named second-team All-ACC by Rivals.com. He ran for 686 yards and scored 10 touchdowns. He also caught 12 passes for 109 yards and one touchdown. In a big game against Auburn, he ran for 140 yards.

Junior Year Success (2011)

Andre had a fantastic junior year in 2011. He ran for 1,178 yards and scored 11 touchdowns. He also caught 22 passes for 109 yards. Because of his great performance, he was named second-team all-conference.

In the 2011 ACC Championship Game, Andre helped Clemson win. He ran for 125 yards and scored a touchdown. Clemson beat Virginia Tech 38–10.

Clemson played in the 2012 Orange Bowl against West Virginia. Even though Clemson lost, Andre had a great game. He ran for 116 yards, including a 68-yard run for the first touchdown of the game.

Senior Year and College Records (2012)

In his final year at Clemson in 2012, Andre continued to shine. He ran for 1,081 yards and scored eight touchdowns. He also caught 14 passes for 232 yards and another touchdown. He earned first-team all-conference honors.

Andre finished his college career as one of Clemson's best runners ever. He was fourth on the list of all-time rushers with 3,436 yards. He also finished third in rushing touchdowns with 33. Andre graduated from Clemson in December 2012. He earned a degree in parks, recreation, and tourism management.

Professional Football Career

Andre Ellington was chosen by the Arizona Cardinals in the 2013 NFL draft. He was picked in the sixth round.

Playing for the Arizona Cardinals (2013-2017)

Andre started his NFL career with the Arizona Cardinals. In his first season (2013), he scored his first touchdown by catching a pass. In one game, he ran for 154 yards, which was the most by any player that week. He finished his rookie year with 652 rushing yards and three touchdowns. He also caught 39 passes for 371 yards.

In 2014, Andre played in 12 games. He ran for 660 yards and scored three touchdowns. He also caught 46 passes for 395 yards. He had to stop playing after Week 14 due to a hip injury.

In 2015, the Cardinals added more running backs to the team. This meant Andre's role changed. However, he still made a big impact. He ran for 289 yards and scored three touchdowns on only 45 carries. In one game against the Seattle Seahawks, he ran for a 48-yard touchdown that won the game!

In 2016, Andre was the third running back for the Cardinals. He played in all 16 games. He ran for 96 yards and caught 12 passes for 85 yards.

In 2017, the Cardinals signed Andre for another year. His coach announced that Andre would change his position to wide receiver. Later that year, on November 20, 2017, the Cardinals released him.

Time with the Houston Texans (2017)

The very next day, on November 21, 2017, the Houston Texans picked up Andre. He finished the 2017 season with 55 rushing yards and one touchdown. He also caught 39 passes for 369 yards.

Final Stop with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2019)

On February 19, 2019, Andre signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. However, he was released by the Buccaneers on August 31, 2019, before the season started.

Personal Life

Andre Ellington has a cousin named Bruce Ellington. Bruce also played in the NFL as a wide receiver. They were even teammates on the 2017 Texans team!
