Andre Cornelius Patterson Sr. (born June 12, 1960) is an American football coach. He is currently the defensive line coach for the New York Giants. This team plays in the National Football League (NFL). Patterson has coached for many NFL teams. These include the Denver Broncos, Cleveland Browns, Dallas Cowboys, New England Patriots, and Minnesota Vikings. He was also a head football coach at California Polytechnic State University.

Andre Patterson's College Days
Andre Patterson started playing college football in 1978. He played as a defensive lineman at Contra Costa College. In 1981, he moved to the University of Montana. Sadly, a knee injury ended his playing career there. He graduated from Montana in 1983. He earned a bachelor's degree in secondary education.
Andre Patterson's Coaching Journey
Andre Patterson has had a long and successful coaching career. He has coached at many levels.
Early Coaching: High School and College
Patterson began his coaching career at Montana. He was a graduate assistant there. From 1983 to 1986, he coached at Renton High School. He also coached at Saint Monica Catholic High School in 1987. At Saint Monica, he even coached the baseball team. In 1989, he returned to college football. He became a defensive coordinator for Western Michigan.
Later, he became the head coach at Cal Poly. This team was new to the FCS level. Patterson led the Mustangs to a championship. They won the American West Conference title. He also helped recruit future professional players.
Coaching in the NFL
In 1997, Patterson got his first chance to coach in the National Football League. New England Patriots head coach Pete Carroll hired him. Patterson became their defensive line coach. After that, he coached the defensive line for several other NFL teams. These included the Minnesota Vikings, Dallas Cowboys, Cleveland Browns, and Denver Broncos.
Back to High School Coaching
In 2007, Patterson coached high school football again. He became the offensive line coach at Regis Jesuit High School. This was special because his son was starting there as a freshman.
Return to College Coaching
Patterson went back to college coaching in 2008. He was an assistant head coach and defensive line coach at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). From 2010 to 2012, he coached at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP). There, he was the defensive coordinator and defensive line coach. His last college job was in 2013. He was an assistant head coach and defensive line coach at Florida International University (FIU).
Time with the Minnesota Vikings
In 2014, Patterson rejoined the Minnesota Vikings. He became their defensive line coach. The head coach was Mike Zimmer. In 2015, Patterson's defensive line was very strong. The Vikings won their first NFC North Division title since 2009. Their defense allowed very few points that season.
On April 14, 2021, Patterson received new titles. The Vikings made him assistant head coach. He also became co-defensive coordinator and defensive line coach.
Current Role: New York Giants
On February 10, 2022, Patterson joined the New York Giants. He was hired as their defensive line coach. He works under head coach Brian Daboll.

Andre Patterson is married to Donna. They have two children together. Their names are Andre Jr. and Ashmera.
