Andre Devalle Turner, born on March 13, 1964, is an American former professional basketball player. He played as a point guard in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Standing 5 feet 11 inches tall, he was known as the "Little General" during his college days. Today, he works with the basketball staff at the University of Memphis, after spending three seasons as a head coach at Lane College.

Andre Turner's College Basketball Journey
Andre Turner played college basketball at Memphis State University, which is now known as the University of Memphis. A very exciting part of his college career happened during his junior year. He and his teammates, including Keith Lee, Baskerville Holmes, and William Bedford, made it all the way to the Final Four tournament.
Game-Winning Shots in College
Andre Turner helped his team reach the Final Four by making three amazing game-winning shots in a row!
- The first shot secured an overtime win against the UAB.
- The second game-winner was against Boston College.
- The third shot, which sent the Tigers to the Final Four, came in a game against the University of Oklahoma.
Even though they made it to the Final Four, the team eventually lost to Villanova, who went on to win the championship that year.
Andre Turner's Professional Basketball Career
Andre Turner was chosen by the Los Angeles Lakers in the 1986 NBA draft. He then played for several teams in the NBA, including the Boston Celtics, Houston Rockets, Milwaukee Bucks, Los Angeles Clippers, Charlotte Hornets, Philadelphia 76ers, and Washington Bullets.

In his NBA career, Andre Turner played 170 games. His best year was during the 1990–91 season. He played 70 games for the Philadelphia 76ers, averaging 5.9 points and 4.4 assists per game.
Playing Overseas
After his time in the NBA, Andre Turner continued his professional career playing basketball in Spain. In 1997, while playing for Joventut Badalona, he helped his team win the Spanish King's Cup title. He was even named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of that tournament! He also played in the EuroLeague, which is a top-level European basketball league, with Sevilla during the 1999–00 season.
Andre Turner's Coaching Career
After his playing days, Andre Turner became a basketball coach.
- He started as an assistant coach at Mitchell High School in Memphis for four years.
- In 2015, he became the head coach at Mitchell High. During his time there, the school's team won three state championships in 2014, 2015, and 2016.
- On April 15, 2021, Andre Turner was named the head coach for Division II Lane College. Lane College is part of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC). He coached there until 2024.
