Andrea Fischbacher (born October 14, 1985) is a former alpine ski racer from Austria. She was a very successful athlete, especially in speed events like Super-G and Downhill.

Career Highlights

Andrea Fischbacher was born in Schwarzach im Pongau, Salzburg. She now lives in Eben im Pongau. She started her professional skiing journey in the World Cup in March 2004. This was in Sestriere, Italy, when she was 18 years old.

Four years later, she got her first World Cup win in Sestriere. It was a tie with another skier, Fabienne Suter. Andrea competed for Austria in two Winter Olympics. She was at the games in 2006 and again in 2010.

At the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, she achieved something amazing. She won the gold medal in the Super-G event. She finished ahead of Tina Maze and Lindsey Vonn. In the Downhill race at the same Olympics, she came in 4th place. She just missed a bronze medal by a tiny 0.03 seconds.

Andrea was not chosen for the Austrian team for the 2014 Winter Olympics. But she didn't give up! She showed her strength by winning a World Cup race right after the Olympics. This was her first time on the podium in over four years.

Andrea Fischbacher won 3 World Cup races in total. Two of these wins were in Downhill, and one was in Super-G. She also reached the podium 10 times in World Cup events. This included 3 times in Downhill, 6 times in Super-G, and 1 time in Giant Slalom. She also won two gold medals at the Junior World Ski Championships in Super-G. One was in 2003 and another in 2004.

Personal Life

Andrea Fischbacher has a famous relative! She is a second cousin of Hermann Maier. He is a very well-known alpine skier who won many Olympic, World Cup, and world championship titles.
