Andrea Fischbacher's Skiing Journey
Andrea Fischbacher was born in Schwarzach im Pongau, Salzburg. She now lives in Eben im Pongau. She started her journey in the World Cup in March 2004. This was in Sestriere, Italy. Four years later, she won her first World Cup race there. It was a tie with another skier, Fabienne Suter.
Olympic Achievements
Andrea represented Austria at the Winter Olympics. She competed in 2006 and again in 2010. At the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, she won a gold medal! This was in the Super-G event. She finished ahead of Tina Maze and Lindsey Vonn. In the Downhill race on February 17, she came in 4th place. She just missed a bronze medal by a tiny bit, only 0.03 seconds!
Later Career Highlights
Andrea was not chosen for the Austrian team for the 2014 Winter Olympics. But she didn't give up! After the Olympics, she won a World Cup race. This was her first time on the podium in over four years.
