Professional Football Career
Andrew Nowacki was picked by the Edmonton Eskimos in the 2004 CFL Draft. He was the 26th player chosen overall.
Starting Out (2004-2005)
As a new player in 2004, Andrew did not play much. He only caught one pass for seven yards. In 2005, his spot on the team was not certain. He was on the inactive list at the start of the season. He began playing on July 14 after another player got hurt. Andrew then suffered a finger injury and missed some games. He returned to play on September 29. In 2005, he caught 18 passes for 151 yards. He also helped the Eskimos win the 93rd Grey Cup championship that year!
Building His Role (2006-2008)
Even with new players joining the team, Andrew kept his spot. In 2006, he caught 17 passes for 147 yards. The Eskimos re-signed him on January 11, 2007.
In a preseason game in June 2007, Andrew caught four passes for 46 yards. As the season began, some other receivers got injured. This meant Andrew had a bigger role in the team's offense. On August 13, 2007, he caught his first career touchdown pass in a game against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. Later in that same game, another player from Murray State University, Jason French, also caught a touchdown. Their touchdowns happened only one minute apart!
In another game, Andrew caught a five-yard touchdown pass. This was in the game where quarterback Ricky Ray broke a team record for passing yards. In 2007, Andrew had a great season with 47 catches for 465 yards and two touchdowns. In 2008, he played in every game. He caught 28 passes for 369 yards and scored two touchdowns. He also played in a playoff game, catching three passes.
