Andrew P. Baukol is an American expert in financial policy. He worked as the acting U.S. Secretary of the Treasury for a short time when Joe Biden first became president. This was a temporary role until Janet Yellen was officially approved by the United States Senate.
After that, he became the acting Under Secretary for International Affairs at the Treasury Department. Currently, he is a governor for the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development. This bank helps countries around the world with their development projects.

Andy Baukol studied at two well-known universities. He earned a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree from the Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University. Later, he received a Master of Arts (MA) degree in economics from the University of Minnesota.

Early Career
From 1989 to 1996, Baukol worked for the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). There, he was an economic analyst, studying how different countries' economies worked.
Later, from 2001 to 2004, he was a senior advisor at the International Monetary Fund (IMF). The IMF is an organization that helps keep the world's money system stable.
Work at the Treasury Department
After his time at the IMF, Baukol joined the United States Department of the Treasury. This department manages the U.S. government's money.
At the Treasury, he helped manage policies related to the Exchange Stabilization Fund. This fund helps keep the value of the U.S. dollar stable in the world market. He also held a senior role focused on international money policies.
In 2021, the Treasury Secretary at the time, Steven Mnuchin, chose Baukol to help with the changeover to the new presidential administration. This role is called the presidential transition director.
