Andrew "Andy" William Halliday (born 11 October 1991) is a Scottish professional footballer. He plays as a midfielder or left-back. Currently, he plays for Motherwell. He is on loan from Heart of Midlothian.
Andy has played for many clubs. These include Livingston, Middlesbrough, and Rangers. In January 2015, he scored a famous goal for Bradford City. This was against Chelsea in the FA Cup. Bradford City won 4–2, which was a huge surprise.

Playing Career Highlights
Starting at Livingston
Andy Halliday was part of the youth team at Livingston. This team won the SFL under-19 League and Cup in 2008–09. They also won the league title again in 2009–10.
Before Livingston, he played for Ross County. He was even scouted by Rangers before joining Livingston in 2006. He started playing for Livingston's first team in April 2008. In March 2009, Andy and two teammates had a trial with an Italian club, Parma.
During the 2009–10 season, Andy played very well. He scored 14 goals in 32 games. Many Scottish and English teams became interested in him. He won the Young Player of the Year award at Livingston.
Time at Middlesbrough
Andy joined Middlesbrough in 2010. At that time, they were in the Championship. He scored his first goal for them in April 2011. It was in a 3–3 draw against Ipswich Town.
In November 2011, he went on loan to Walsall. He played there until January 2012. Later, in January 2014, he joined Blackpool on loan for the rest of the season.
Success with Bradford City
Andy joined Bradford City on loan in October 2014. This move became permanent in January 2015. He scored a key goal in Bradford City's amazing 4–2 win over Chelsea. This match was in the 2014–15 FA Cup.
He scored three goals in 32 games for Bradford during the 2014–15 season. After the season, he left the club.
Dream Move to Rangers
On 18 July 2015, Andy signed a two-year deal with his childhood favorite team, Rangers. He even had the option for a third year. He scored in his very first game for Rangers. This was a 6–2 win against Hibernian in the Scottish Challenge Cup.
He scored his first league goal for Rangers in August. It was in a 5–1 win against Queen of the South. In December 2015, he scored his first home goal at Ibrox.
In 2016, Andy continued to play well. He signed a new four-year contract until 2020. He scored against teams like Dumbarton and Raith Rovers. In the 2016 Scottish Challenge Cup Final, he scored a penalty. He also scored a penalty in the Scottish Cup semi-final against Celtic. In the 2016 Scottish Cup Final, he scored a "stunning" long-range goal. However, Rangers lost the final 3–2.
The next season, Andy made his Scottish Premiership debut in August 2016. He played in a 1–1 draw against Hamilton Academical. He was named captain for a League Cup match against Queen of the South. He scored the second goal in a 5–0 win.
Andy's playing time became less frequent under new manager Pedro Caixinha. Rangers finished the season in third place.
Loan to Gabala
On 28 June 2017, Andy joined Gabala FK in Azerbaijan on a season-long loan. He played in a UEFA Europa League match. However, his loan ended early in January 2018. He didn't play many matches during his time there.
Back at Rangers
After his loan, Andy returned to Rangers in October 2017. He played as a starter in a 2017–18 Scottish Cup semi-final against Celtic. He was later substituted in that game. Two weeks later, he played the whole match against Celtic at Celtic Park. He played in an unfamiliar position at left back.
Under new manager Steven Gerrard in 2018–19, Andy played more often. He played as a full-back or midfielder. He also made seven appearances in the Europa League. In a big league game against Celtic in December 2018, Rangers won 1–0. Gerrard praised Andy, calling him his "unofficial captain."
On 19 May 2020, it was announced that Andy would leave Rangers. His contract ended at the end of May.
Heart of Midlothian
On 28 September 2020, Heart of Midlothian signed Andy Halliday. He joined them on a two-year deal.
Motherwell
On 19 January 2024, Andy joined Motherwell on loan. This loan was until the end of the season. The plan was for him to join Motherwell permanently in the summer of 2024.
Life Outside Football
Andy Halliday has been a huge fan of Rangers since he was a boy. He had a season ticket for sixteen years. In 2008, he even traveled to Manchester to watch Rangers play. This was in the UEFA Cup Final. He missed a school exam to go!
Media Work
Since 2020, Andy has also worked in media. He often appears on the "Open Goal" podcast on YouTube. He is also a regular football expert on Clyde 1 superscoreboard, a radio show.
