Andrew William Halliday (born 11 October 1991) is a Scottish professional footballer. He plays as a midfielder or left-back for the Scottish club Motherwell. He has played for many teams, including Livingston, Middlesbrough, and Rangers.
In January 2015, Andy Halliday scored a goal for Bradford City against Chelsea in the FA Cup. Bradford City won the game 4–2. This win was a huge surprise and is remembered as one of the biggest upsets in FA Cup history.

Andy Halliday's Football Journey
Starting at Livingston
Andy Halliday began his youth career at Ross County and then Rangers. He later joined Livingston's youth team. He was part of the youth team that won the SFL under-19 League and Cup in 2008–09. They also won the league title again in 2009–10.
He made his first team debut for Livingston on 26 April 2008. During the 2009–10 season, Halliday scored 14 goals in 32 games. His great performances caught the eye of many Scottish and English teams. He was named Livingston's Young Player of the Year for that season.
Time at Middlesbrough
In 2010, Halliday moved to Middlesbrough, which was then in the Championship. He scored his first goal for Middlesbrough in a 3–3 draw against Ipswich Town in April 2011. He also scored in an FA Cup match against Hastings United.
He also spent time on loan at Walsall in 2011 and Blackpool in 2014 to gain more playing experience.
Playing for Bradford City
Halliday joined Bradford City on loan in October 2014. The move became permanent in January 2015. He scored a famous goal for Bradford City in their 4–2 win over Chelsea in the 2014–15 FA Cup. This was a huge upset in football. He played 32 games for Bradford during the 2014–15 season, scoring three goals. He left the club at the end of that season.
Dream Move to Rangers
On 18 July 2015, Andy Halliday signed a two-year deal with his childhood favourite team, Rangers. He had been a Rangers fan since he was a boy. He scored in his first game for Rangers, a 6–2 win against Hibernian in the Scottish Challenge Cup.
He scored his first league goal for Rangers in a 5–1 win over Queen of the South. He also scored his first home goal at Ibrox against Dumbarton. In January 2016, he signed a new four-year contract with Rangers. He continued to score important goals for the team.
Halliday played in the 2016 Scottish Cup Final against Hibernian. He scored a fantastic long-range goal to put Rangers ahead 2–1. However, Rangers unfortunately lost the final 3–2.
In the 2016–17 season, Halliday made his Scottish Premiership debut. He even captained Rangers in a League Cup match against Queen of the South, scoring a goal in a 5–0 win.
Loan to Gabala
In June 2017, Halliday went on a season-long loan to Gabala FK in Azerbaijan. He played in their UEFA Europa League qualifying matches. His loan ended in January 2018.
Back at Rangers
After his loan, Halliday returned to Rangers. He played as a left-back in some important games. Under new manager Steven Gerrard, Halliday played more often in the 2018–19 season. He played well in a big 1–0 win against Celtic in December 2018. Gerrard even called him his "unofficial captain."
Halliday left Rangers in May 2020 when his contract ended.
Heart of Midlothian and Motherwell
On 28 September 2020, Andy Halliday joined Heart of Midlothian on a two-year deal. He played for Hearts until January 2024.
In January 2024, Halliday moved to Motherwell on loan. This loan became a permanent deal in the summer of 2024. Motherwell announced in April 2025 that they had extended his contract for the 2025–26 season.
Personal Life
Andy Halliday has always been a huge fan of Rangers. He had a season ticket for 16 years! He even missed a school exam to travel to Manchester in 2008 to watch Rangers play in the 2008 UEFA Cup Final.
Media Work
Since 2020, Halliday has also started a career in media. He often appears on the "Open Goal" YouTube channel and podcast. He also works as a football expert on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard.
