Andy Hamilton (born on 28 May 1954) is a well-known British comedian, writer, and actor. You might know him from TV shows, radio, or even as a voice in some popular children's cartoons! He's also a director and has written many funny scripts.

Andy Hamilton's Early Life and Education

Andy Hamilton was born in Fulham, a part of West London, England. He went to Westminster City School, which was a special type of school called a grammar school back then. Later, he studied English at Downing College, Cambridge University. While at Cambridge, he was part of a comedy group called the Cambridge University Light Entertainment Society (CULES). This is where he started to show his talent for making people laugh!

His Career in Comedy and Entertainment

Andy Hamilton first became known for his comedy performances at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in the 1970s. This is a huge arts festival where many comedians get their start. Before joining the BBC in 1976, he worked at places like Harrods and the Post Office.

Radio and TV Appearances

Andy has done a lot of work on BBC Radio 4. He was part of shows like Week Ending and The News Huddlines. He's also a regular guest on popular comedy panel shows like Have I Got News for You, The News Quiz, and QI. These shows often involve comedians discussing current events in a funny way. He's also been a guest on I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue, a very popular comedy game show.

On television, Andy helped create some famous comedy shows. He co-created Drop the Dead Donkey and the much-loved family comedy Outnumbered with his writing partner, Guy Jenkin.

Voice Acting Roles

You might have heard Andy's voice without even knowing it! He voices Dr Elephant, the friendly dentist, in the popular children's show Peppa Pig. He also voiced Captain Squid, the pirate, in Ben & Holly's Little Kingdom. Before that, he was the original voice of Bob Fish, another dentist, in the cartoon Bob and Margaret.
