Aneby Municipality (called Aneby kommun in Swedish) is a local government area in Jönköping County, in southern Sweden. The main town and administrative center of the municipality is Aneby.
This municipality was created in 1967. Before that, it was made up of two smaller municipalities called Bredestad and Hullaryd. They had been formed in 1952. The name "Aneby" was chosen for the new municipality because it was the biggest town in the area. Even earlier, before 1952, there were nine different small local areas in this region!
Towns and Villages
Aneby Municipality has three main urban areas or "localities." These are places where many people live close together.
The table below shows these localities. They are listed by how many people lived there on December 31, 2005. The main town, Aneby, is shown in bold letters.
# | Locality | Population |
---|---|---|
1 | Aneby | 3,374 |
2 | Sundhultsbrunn | 314 |
3 | Frinnaryd | 225 |
Population Information
Aneby Municipality is the smallest municipality in its county. In 1994, the number of people living here reached its highest point, with about 7,300 residents. This increase was partly because many refugees from former Yugoslavia came to live in the area.
Since then, the population has gone down. Local officials would like to see more people move to Aneby. They hope the population will grow to about 8,000 people, which is the number the municipality's services are designed for.
