About Angela Sommer-Bodenburg
Her Early Life and Education
Angela Sommer-Bodenburg was born in Reinbek, Germany. This was in a part of Germany that was occupied by Allied forces after World War II. She went to the University of Hamburg. There, she studied education, philosophy, and sociology.
From Teacher to Author
From 1972 to 1984, Angela worked as a teacher. She taught at middle and high schools in Hamburg, West Germany. She wrote the first chapter of The Little Vampire as an experiment. She wanted to see what kind of stories would keep her students interested. In 1984, she stopped teaching. She then focused on her passion for painting and writing.
Angela has written over forty books. These include books for both children and adults. She has written everything from poetry to full novels. She has said that the huge success of The Little Vampire series was a "mixed blessing." This is because people often saw her only as a children's book author. And even more specifically, as an author who only wrote about vampires.
Moving to New Places
In 1992, Angela moved to Rancho Santa Fe, California. She visited a film company in Hollywood that wanted to make a movie version of The Little Vampire. Later, in 2004, she moved to Silver City, New Mexico.
