Angelina Romanovna Melnikova, born on July 18, 2000, is a famous Russian artistic gymnast. She has won many medals at the Olympics and World Championships. In fact, she is one of the most successful Russian gymnasts ever!

At the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Angelina helped her team win a gold medal. She also won a silver medal with her team at the 2016 Rio Olympics. She was part of the Russian teams that won gold at the European Championships in 2016 and 2018.

Angelina has also won many individual medals. She is a two-time Olympic medalist and a five-time World medalist. She won the all-around gold medal at the 2021 World Championships. This was a huge achievement, as she was the first non-American to win this title in over ten years!

She has been the captain of the Russian women's national gymnastics team since 2017.

Angelina Melnikova's Early Life

Angelina Romanovna Melnikova was born in Voronezh, Russia. She has a younger brother named Oleg. Angelina started gymnastics when she was six years old. Her grandmother took her to practice for the first time.

When she was thirteen, she moved to Moscow. There, she trained at the Round Lake national training center. This is a special place where top gymnasts train. She also studied sport and tourism at the Smolensk State Academy of Physical Education.

Junior Gymnastics Career

Starting Strong in 2014

In 2014, Angelina competed at the International Gymnix event in Canada. Her team won the gold medal. She also won a silver medal in the all-around competition. She earned a silver on uneven bars and a bronze on floor exercise.

At the Russian Championships, her team won first place. Angelina also won the all-around gold medal in her age group. She took home two more gold medals on balance beam and floor exercise.

Later in 2014, Angelina competed at the European Championships. Her junior team won gold. She also won gold in the all-around and on the balance beam. She earned a silver medal on uneven bars. She finished the year with more gold medals at the Top Gym Tournament.

Success in 2015

Angelina continued her success at the Junior Russian Championships in 2015. Her team won first place. She also placed second in the all-around and won gold on the balance beam.

She competed as a guest at the Russian Cup, even though she was still a junior. Her score was the highest of the competition! In November, she won the all-around title at the Elite Gym Massilia meet in France. She also won gold medals on vault and floor exercise at the Voronin Cup in December.

Senior Gymnastics Career

Making Her Mark in 2016

In 2016, Angelina was old enough to compete as a senior gymnast. She made her international senior debut at the DTB Pokal Team Challenge Cup. The Russian team won the gold medal there.

In April, she won her first senior national all-around title at the Russian Championships. She also won gold medals on balance beam and floor exercise. At the European Championships, her team won first place.

Angelina was chosen to represent Russia at the 2016 Rio Olympics. She helped her team win a silver medal. After the Olympics, she won the all-around at the Arthur Gander Memorial. She also won gold on uneven bars at the Toyota International event in Japan.

Angelina became the captain of the Russian women's national team in 2017. She competed at the Stuttgart World Cup and finished second. At the City of Jesolo Trophy, she won three bronze medals.

At the European Championships, she won the gold medal on floor exercise. This was a big win for her! In August, she won the all-around title at the Russian Cup. She also won gold on the balance beam.
