A Look Back at History
The land where Anizy-le-Château stands was given by Clovis I, an early king of the Franks, to Saint Remi. Saint Remi then gave it to the Bishop of Laon.
In 1397, King Charles VI created a special area called a "County" for Jean de Roucy, who was the Bishop of Laon at the time. The bishops of Laon built a strong castle here. This castle was rebuilt in the 1500s by the Cardinal de Bourbon. It was rebuilt again in the 1700s by Monseigneur de Rochechouart, who also helped pave the roads in the town.
Anizy-le-Château's Coat of Arms
A coat of arms is a special design that represents a family, town, or organization. It often tells a story about its history.
The coat of arms for Anizy-le-Château features a blue shield with many gold fleur-de-lis. A silver cross is placed over these. There is also a red bishop's staff (called a crozier) and a small blue shield with another gold fleur-de-lis. Two blue keys are crossed over everything.
