Anke Engelke's Early Life and Family
Anke Engelke was born in Montreal, Canada. In 1971, when she was six years old, she moved to Cologne, Germany, with her German parents. From a young age, Anke showed a great talent for singing. She was discovered in 1978 while performing with her school choir.
Anke has three children. She was married to musician Andreas Grimm from 1994 to 2000. Later, she married musician Claus Fischer in 2005, and they were together until 2015.
Anke Engelke's Entertaining Career
Anke Engelke started her career in television very early. From 1979 to 1986, she hosted a daily children's TV show. This show was broadcast from the Funkausstellung, a big German radio exhibition in Berlin. She also presented a weekly sports show for kids and teens called Pfiff.
Early Radio and Comedy Work
From 1978 to 1980, Anke hosted a show called Moment mal (Wait a minute) on RTL. In 1986, she joined SWF3 radio as an editor. She later became a presenter there until 1998. Since 1989, she has sung with the band Fred Kellner und die famosen Soul Sisters. She also joined the SWF3-Comedy-Ensemble Gagtory in 1993.
Rise to Comedy Stardom
From 1996 to 2000, Anke was a main part of Die Wochenshow on Sat.1. This was a very popular comedy TV show in Germany. She worked alongside other famous comedians like Bastian Pastewka.
In 2003, Anke Engelke and Olli Dittrich won the Grimme-Preis, a major German TV award. They received it for their amazing improv show Blind Date 2 – Taxi nach Schweinau.

Since 2006, Anke has been the German voice of Marge Simpson on The Simpsons. She took over the role after the previous voice actress, Elisabeth Volkmann, passed away. Anke's first episode as Marge aired in Germany in January 2007.
Hosting Major Events
Anke has hosted the European Film Awards ceremony several times. She hosted it in December 2009, and then again in 2010, 2011, and 2012.
In May 2011, she co-hosted the Eurovision Song Contest 2011 in Düsseldorf. She hosted it with Stefan Raab and Judith Rakers.
The next year, in 2012, Anke was the spokesperson for Germany at the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 in Baku, Azerbaijan. Before giving Germany's votes, she spoke about human rights in the host country. She said, "Tonight nobody could vote for their own country. But it is good to be able to vote. And it is good to have a choice. Good luck on your journey, Azerbaijan. Europe is watching you." She was the only spokesperson to mention human rights during the event. She also served as one of Germany's national judges for the contest that year.
In February 2013, Anke continued her involvement with Eurovision. She hosted Unser Song für Malmö, which was the German national final show.
