Anna Flanagan, born on January 8, 1992, is a talented Australian field hockey player. She plays as a defender for the Canberra Labor Club Strikers in the Australian Hockey League. Many people know her by her nickname, Flanno.
Anna has played for the Australian national team many times since 2010. She has represented her country in major tournaments. These include the World Cup and the Olympic Games.

Anna Flanagan's Hockey Journey
Anna Flanagan is a skilled defender in field hockey. She is especially good at taking special shots called corner penalties. Even though she played many different sports when she was younger, she decided to focus on field hockey in 2000.
Joining the National Team
Anna first played for the Australian national team in March 2010. She was 18 years old at the time. Her first game was a friendly match against South Korea. She had actually been invited to join the team when she was just 17. Her selection came when the team was bringing in many young players. This happened after the 2008 Summer Olympics.
Later in 2010, Anna helped Australia win a gold medal. This was at the Commonwealth Games. She also played for Australia at the 2012 Summer Olympics. Her team finished in fifth place there. Before those Olympic Games, she had already played over 50 games for the national team.
World Recognition and Achievements
In 2013, Anna Flanagan was named the World Young Player of the Year in field hockey. This was a big honor for her. She also took part in the 2012–13 Women's FIH Hockey World League. This tournament was held in Tucumán, Argentina. Her team finished in second place. Anna scored the only goal for Australia in the final game.
Life Outside Hockey
Anna Flanagan was born on January 8, 1992. Her father, Fred Flanagan, was a PE teacher in Canberra. Anna grew up in Canberra. There, she enjoyed playing tennis, track and field, and field hockey.
She went to Brindabella Christian College. After that, she attended Radford College. Anna later earned a degree in sports journalism from the University of Canberra. Her career in journalism began around the same time she joined the Australian field hockey squad.
To help her field hockey career, she moved from Canberra to Perth after the Commonwealth Games. After moving, she started working as a professional journalist for Fox Sports in Perth. She also studied at Curtin University in 2011 and 2012.
