Anna Flanagan, born on January 8, 1992, is an amazing Australian field hockey player. She is known as a strong defender for her team, the Canberra Labor Club Strikers. Her nickname is Flanno.
Anna has played for the Australian national team since 2010. She has played in over 100 international games. She has also represented Australia in a World Cup and at the Olympic Games.

Anna Flanagan's Hockey Journey
Anna Flanagan is a defender, which means she helps protect her team's goal. She is also very good at taking special shots called corner penalties. She started playing field hockey seriously in 2000, after trying many different sports.
Joining the National Team
Anna first joined the national team when she was 17 years old. She made her official debut in March 2010, playing against South Korea. She was only 18 at the time! Many young players like Anna joined the team around then. This was after the 2008 Summer Olympics.
Winning Gold and Olympic Dreams
Later in 2010, Anna helped Australia win a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games. She also played for Australia at the 2012 Summer Olympics. Her team finished in fifth place. By the time of the 2012 Olympics, she had already played in over 50 games for her country.
World Young Player of the Year
In 2013, Anna was named the World Young Player of the Year in field hockey. This is a huge award for a young player! She also played in the 2012–13 Women's FIH Hockey World League in Tucumán, Argentina. Her team came in second place. Anna scored Australia's only goal in the final game.
Anna's Life Off the Field
Anna Flanagan was born on January 8, 1992. Her dad, Fred Flanagan, was a PE teacher in Canberra. Anna grew up in Canberra. She played many sports there, including tennis, track and field, and field hockey.
School and Studies
She went to Brindabella Christian College and then Radford College. Anna later studied sports journalism at the University of Canberra. She even started working in journalism around the same time she joined the Australian field hockey team.
Moving for Hockey
After the Commonwealth Games, Anna moved from Canberra to Perth. This move helped her focus more on her field hockey career. In Perth, she also started doing some journalism work for Fox Sports.
