Annamarie Tendler (born June 9, 1985), known professionally as Anna Marie Tendler, is an American artist. She works with photography, makeup, and textile crafts. She is especially known for making unique lampshades by hand. Anna Marie has written books like Pin It!: 20 Fabulous Bobby Pin Hairstyles and The Daily Face: 25 Makeup Looks for Day, Night, and Everything In Between!. Her memoir, Men Have Called Her Crazy, was published in August 2024.

Early Life and School

Anna Marie Tendler was born in Bethel, Connecticut. She is Jewish. After high school, she studied hairstyling and makeup. She also studied photography for a while.

Later, she earned a bachelor's degree from The New School. She studied writing and psychology there. In 2021, she earned a master's degree from NYU Steinhardt. This degree was in costume studies.

Anna Marie Tendler's Career

After leaving college in her first year, Tendler started working. She became a hairstylist and makeup artist in New York City. She was one of the first people to share beauty tips online.

In 2007, she started a blog on Tumblr. She posted new makeup looks every day. This blog became very popular, with over 350,000 followers. Her makeup tutorials were even shown in magazines like Glamour.

In 2016, she worked with Amy Poehler's Smart Girls. They created a YouTube series called The Other Side. This series combined beauty tips with stories about mysterious things.

Silk Parlor and Other Work

Since 2016, Tendler has owned a business called Silk Parlor. She makes Victorian-style lampshades by hand.

As a makeup artist and hair stylist, she has worked on many TV shows. These include The Old Man and the Seymour and CollegeHumor Originals. She also worked on comedy specials for comedians like John Mulaney and Aziz Ansari. On Broadway, she worked on the shows Oh, Hello and Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812.

In 2018, Tendler appeared briefly in a TV show. It was an episode of Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee. Her then-husband, John Mulaney, was also in the episode. In 2019, Tendler was part of Mulaney's comedy special. It was called John Mulaney & the Sack Lunch Bunch. She talked about her biggest fears and had a small role in a skit.

Art and Writing

In September 2021, Tendler showed her artwork. This was at The Other Art Fair in Santa Monica, California. Her art exhibition was called "rooms in the first house". Her website says this art shows feelings like loss and anger. It also shows finding your own identity again.

In 2022, Tendler started writing her memoir. A memoir is a book about a person's own life. Her book is called Men Have Called Her Crazy. It was inspired by her experiences in early 2021. The book was published by Simon & Schuster on August 13, 2024.

Personal Life

Tendler married comedian John Mulaney on July 5, 2014. Their wedding was in Boiceville, New York. Their friend, comedian Dan Levy, led the ceremony. John Mulaney often talked about Tendler and their French Bulldog Petunia in his comedy shows.

Tendler and Mulaney announced their separation in May 2021. Mulaney filed for divorce in July of the same year. Their divorce was finalized in January 2022.

Tendler now lives in Connecticut.
