Anna's Early Life
Anna Lotterud was born on June 8, 1989, in a small town called Gjøvik in Norway. Her father was a musician, which might have inspired her love for music. Before she became a singer, Anna studied graphic design. She later moved to Melbourne, Australia, to continue her studies.
Her Music Journey
While studying in Melbourne, Anna met a New Zealand music producer named Brady Daniell-Smith. They decided to team up and form the duo "Anna of the North." Anna was the singer, and Brady created the music.
In June 2014, they released their first song, "Sway." It quickly became popular online and helped them get a record deal in the United States. Later that year, the famous DJ group The Chainsmokers even made their own version of "Sway."
Anna of the North then released more songs like "The Dreamer" and "Baby." These songs became very popular on music charts. They also got to open for the DJ Kygo on his tour across Europe. Over the next few months, they released other well-loved songs such as "Us" and "Oslo."
In May 2017, Anna of the North announced their first album, Lovers. It was released on September 8, 2017. The album included the song "Lovers," which Anna shared was inspired by a breakup. She said that even though it was a sad time, the song still has a hopeful message about the future.
In July 2017, Anna's voice was featured on two songs by the American rapper Tyler, the Creator: "Boredom" and "911 / Mr. Lonely." These songs were on his album Flower Boy. Anna was also invited to perform with Tyler, the Creator on a TV show called The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
Brady Daniell-Smith, the producer who started Anna of the North with Anna, left the duo in 2018. They remained friends.
Anna's second album, Dream Girl, came out on October 25, 2019. The main song from this album, "Dream Girl," was even used in an iPad Pro advertisement in 2020. In October 2020, she released a shorter collection of songs called an EP, titled Believe. She continued to release new music, including the single "Here's To Another" in 2021.
