What Kind of Art Does Annie Martin Make?
Annie Martin creates many types of art. She makes installations, which are like art environments you can walk through. She also uses sound, video, and textiles (fabrics) in her work. She even does drawings and performances.
Her art often focuses on how we use our senses. She likes to experiment and explore new ideas. She uses materials that don't last forever, like sounds. Her art often involves drawing, writing, listening, and even walking.
Listening Walks: Art You Can Hear
Since 2004, Annie Martin has led special "listening walks." These walks are a way to explore sounds around us. It's like a quiet performance where you pay close attention to what you hear.
In 2008, she created two audio CDs. They were called music for insomniacs (for people who can't sleep) and symphonie interne (internal symphony).
The (im) permeable Exhibition
In 2008, Annie Martin had an exhibition called (im) permeable. She hung trench coats on walls in a gallery. Each coat had a hidden speaker inside. The sound came from other parts of the mall. To hear the sounds, you had to lean close to each coat. It was like secretly listening in on another place and time.
In 2009, Annie Martin's Listening Walks were part of an event called "Into the Streets." This event featured art installations and performances in the city. She guided people to listen to urban sounds.
