The Anolis dollfusianus, often called the coffee anole, is a type of lizard. In Spanish, it is known as el abaniquillo de cafetal. This interesting lizard belongs to the family called Dactyloidae. You can find the coffee anole living in parts of Guatemala and Mexico.

What's in a Name?

The scientific name, dollfusianus, was given to honor a French zoologist named Auguste Dollfus. Zoologists are scientists who study animals.

Where Do Coffee Anoles Live?

The coffee anole lives in two main areas. You can find them in the western parts of Guatemala. They also live in the very southern part of Mexico, in a state called Chiapas.

What is Their Home Like?

Coffee anoles usually prefer to live in forests. However, they are also quite happy living in coffee plantations. These are farms where coffee beans are grown. You can find these lizards at different heights, from about 200 meters (around 650 feet) up to 1,200 meters (about 3,900 feet) above sea level.

How Do They Have Babies?

The Anolis dollfusianus is an oviparous animal. This means that female coffee anoles lay eggs to have their young.
