Anson Adams Mount IV (born February 25, 1973) is an American actor. He is famous for playing Captain Christopher Pike in the Star Trek universe. He also played the superhero Black Bolt in Marvel movies and TV shows.

Many people know him as Cullen Bohannon from the western TV series Hell on Wheels. He also appeared in the movie Crossroads with singer Britney Spears. Besides acting, Mount is on the board of directors for METI International, an organization that researches how to communicate with intelligent life beyond Earth.

Early Life and Education

Anson Mount was born in Arlington Heights, Illinois. His father, Anson Adams Mount II, was a writer for a well-known magazine. His mother, Nancy Smith, was a professional golfer. Mount has an older brother and two sisters from his father's first marriage.

He grew up in Dickson, Tennessee, and went to Dickson County High School. After high school, he studied at the University of the South. He later earned a Master of Fine Arts degree from Columbia University.

Acting Career

Mount has had a long career in theater, movies, and television. He is known for playing a wide variety of characters.

Theater Roles

Mount started his acting career on the stage. In 1998, he starred in a play called Corpus Christi. His performance earned him an honor from the Drama League, an organization that recognizes great theater work.

Over the years, he has appeared in many other plays. He acted in classic plays like Three Sisters by Anton Chekhov. He has also performed in modern plays like Mankind by Robert O'Hara.

Movie Roles

The Star Trek Universe

In 2018, Mount was cast as Captain Christopher Pike in the series Star Trek: Discovery. Captain Pike was the captain of the Starship Enterprise before Captain Kirk. Fans loved his performance so much that they started a petition for him to get his own show.

The fans' requests were heard. In 2022, the series Star Trek: Strange New Worlds premiered, with Mount as the star. The show follows the adventures of Captain Pike and his crew aboard the Enterprise.

Other Work

Besides acting, Mount is an adjunct assistant professor at Columbia University. He teaches acting students how to prepare for auditions. He has also written articles for magazines like The Daily Beast and Cowboys & Indians.

Personal Life

On July 8, 2017, Mount announced he was engaged to photographer Darah Trang. They got married on February 20, 2018. The couple has a daughter, who was born in December 2021.
