The State Anthem of the Azerbaijan SSR (Azerbaijani: Azərbaycan Sovet Sosialist Respublikasının Himni) was the official song of Azerbaijan. This was when Azerbaijan was part of the Soviet Union. It was known as the Azerbaijan SSR at that time.
About the Anthem
This anthem was used for many years, from 1944 to 1992. A famous composer named Uzeyir Hajibeyov wrote the music. He also wrote the music for the current national anthem of Azerbaijan, called the March of Azerbaijan.
The words, or lyrics, were written by Suleyman Rustam, Samad Vurgun, and Huseyn Arif. In 1978, the lyrics were changed. This was to remove any mentions of Joseph Stalin, who was a leader of the Soviet Union.
Like many anthems from the Soviet Union, this song praised important figures like Vladimir Lenin. It also celebrated the October Revolution and the idea of Communism. The song also spoke about the friendship between the different parts of the Soviet Union. This anthem was used until 1992. That's when Azerbaijan became an independent country again. After that, the "March of Azerbaijan" became the official anthem once more.
