Professional Basketball Journey
Starting in the NBA
In 1986, the Houston Rockets picked Anthony Bowie in the third round of the 1986 NBA draft. He was the 66th player chosen overall. After playing in some preseason games for the Rockets and the New Jersey Nets, he officially joined the NBA. His first NBA team was the San Antonio Spurs in 1989. After that season, he was traded back to the Rockets, the team that first drafted him. He played 66 games for them that year.
Time with the Orlando Magic
Bowie spent the 1990–91 season playing basketball in Italy. In 1991, the Orlando Magic signed him, and he stayed with them for five seasons. This was the most successful part of his career. Bowie was known for being a great player off the bench. He would often come into the game and give the team a boost. He was also good at guarding the other team's best players. He could make both regular jump shots and three-pointers. He even played with the Magic in the 1995 NBA Finals.
Returning to Europe
After his time with the Magic, Bowie went back to play in Europe. He played for a team in Italy called Stefanel Milano in the 1996–97 season. In 1998, he briefly returned to the NBA, playing 27 games for the New York Knicks.
Then, he went back to Europe and achieved great success. In 1999, he won the EuroLeague championship with a Lithuanian team, Žalgiris Kaunas. The next year, he played for AEK Athens in Greece. With them, he won both the FIBA Saporta Cup and the Greek Cup in 2000. He played in Italy again in 2001 before retiring from professional basketball.
The Famous Triple-Double
Anthony Bowie is often remembered for a special game on March 9, 1996. In that game against the Detroit Pistons, he achieved a triple-double. This means he had 20 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists. To get his tenth assist, he called a timeout after getting a rebound. His coach, Brian Hill, was not happy, but Bowie set up a play to get his final assist. He passed the ball to David Vaughn, who dunked it. This moment showed Bowie's determination to reach his goal.
Coaching Career
In 2003, Anthony Bowie became a head coach for a high school basketball team. He coached the team at Bishop Moore High School, a private school in Orlando.
