Anthony Michael Collins (born in 1960) is an Irish judge. He currently serves as a judge on the Court of Appeal in Ireland. He started this role in November 2024. Before this, he worked at important courts in Europe. He was an Advocate General at the European Court of Justice. He also served as a judge at the General Court of the European Union.

Early Life and Education
Anthony Collins was born on May 23, 1960. He was born in Hartford, Connecticut, in the United States. His parents were Irish.
He studied law at Trinity College Dublin. He earned a degree in Legal Science in 1984. After that, he went to King's Inns. This is where people train to become barristers. A barrister is a type of lawyer who argues cases in court.
He was very active in student groups. He was a leader for school student unions in Europe. He also helped lead youth committees. He was also a member of the Labour Party in Ireland.
Legal Career
Collins became a barrister in 1986. He became a senior counsel in 2003. A senior counsel is a very experienced lawyer. His legal work focused on European Union law and administrative law. Administrative law deals with how governments work.
His connection with the European Court of Justice began in 1990. He worked there as a référendaire. This is like a legal assistant to a judge. He worked for Irish judges Tom O'Higgins and John L. Murray. He returned to private legal work in 1997.
He has also written a legal book called Civil Proceedings and the State. He was also the editor of the Irish Journal of European Law. This was from 1992 to 2001. He is also a professor at University College Cork.
Judicial Career
General Court of the European Union
The Government of Ireland chose Anthony Collins for the General Court of the European Union. This happened in May 2013. He took over from Kevin O'Higgins as the Irish judge. He was chosen again in 2019 for another six-year term. He also led different chambers (groups of judges) within the General Court.
Advocate General of the European Court of Justice
In April 2021, the Irish Advocate General, Gerard Hogan, was nominated for a different court. The Irish government then chose Anthony Collins to take his place. An Advocate General gives independent legal opinions to the court. His appointment was approved by the European Council in September 2021. He served in this role from October 2021 to November 2024.
Court of Appeal
On October 31, 2024, the Irish government nominated Anthony Collins. They chose him to be a judge of the Court of Appeal. This court hears appeals from other courts in Ireland. President Michael D. Higgins officially appointed him on November 1, 2024.
