Anthony Robert Gose (born August 10, 1990) is an American professional baseball player. He plays as both a pitcher and an outfielder. He is currently with the Arizona Diamondbacks organization. Before this, he played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Toronto Blue Jays, Detroit Tigers, and Cleveland Guardians. He started his career as an outfielder. After the 2016 season, he changed to become a pitcher.

Early Life & High School Sports
Anthony Gose grew up in Bellflower, California. He went to Bellflower High School. During his senior year, he was a star on the school's baseball team. He had a great batting average of .443. He also stole 31 stolen bases, showing how fast he was.
Gose was also a pitcher for his high school team. He could throw the ball very fast, up to 97 miles per hour. Besides baseball, he was also a talented track and field athlete. He ran in sprint races like the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes. He also competed in relay races. Gose received a scholarship to play college baseball at the University of Arizona.
Professional Baseball Career
Starting with the Phillies
The Philadelphia Phillies picked Anthony Gose in the 2008 MLB Draft. He was the 51st player chosen overall. Gose decided to sign with the Phillies instead of going to college. He received a signing bonus of $772,000.
In 2009, Gose played for the Lakewood BlueClaws. This team is in a lower level of minor league baseball. He was chosen to play in their All-Star Game. That season, he led all minor league players with 76 stolen bases. In 2010, he played for the Clearwater Threshers. He hit .263 and had 4 home runs.
Joining the Toronto Blue Jays
In July 2010, Gose was part of a big trade. He was first traded to the Houston Astros. Then, right away, he was traded to the Toronto Blue Jays. The Blue Jays had wanted Gose for a long time. They sent him to their minor league team, the Dunedin Blue Jays.
In 2011, MLB.com said Gose was the Blue Jays' fifth-best young player. He played for the New Hampshire Fisher Cats. This team won their league championship. Gose scored the winning run in that game. He also set a new team record with 70 stolen bases. He hit 15 home runs that year too.
Before the 2012 season, Gose was ranked as the 39th-best young player in all of baseball. He started the 2012 season with the Las Vegas 51s. He was chosen to play in the 2012 All-Star Futures Game. In Triple-A, he had a .286 batting average.
Making it to Major League Baseball
On July 17, 2012, Anthony Gose was called up to the Toronto Blue Jays. This was his first time playing in Major League Baseball (MLB). He got his first MLB hit that day. On September 8, he hit his first career home run. It was a three-run shot against the Boston Red Sox. In 2012, Gose played in 56 MLB games. He had 15 stolen bases.
Gose spent time between the Blue Jays and their minor league team in 2013 and 2014. He continued to show his speed and skills.
Playing for the Detroit Tigers
In November 2014, Gose was traded to the Detroit Tigers. In 2015, he was the Tigers' main center fielder. He played in 140 games and stole 23 bases. In May 2016, he was sent down to the Triple-A Toledo Mud Hens.

Journey as a Pitcher
Texas Rangers and Cleveland Indians
In November 2017, Gose signed a minor league deal with the Texas Rangers. A few weeks later, the Houston Astros picked him in the Rule 5 draft. However, the Astros later returned him to the Rangers. He spent 2018 pitching in the minor leagues.
In December 2018, Gose signed a minor league contract with the Cleveland Indians. He pitched well in 2019, with a low ERA (Earned Run Average). He did not play in 2020 because the minor league season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Return to MLB with Cleveland Guardians
Gose signed another minor league contract with the Indians in November 2020. In September 2021, the Indians, now called the Cleveland Guardians, brought him up to the major leagues as a pitcher. This was his first time pitching in MLB. He pitched very well in 6 games that season.
In 2022, Gose pitched in 22 games for the Guardians. He had a 3-0 record. In August 2022, he had a triceps injury. He had Tommy John surgery in September, which meant he would miss the 2023 season. The Guardians re-signed him to a minor league contract while he recovered.
Gose returned to pitching in 2024 with the Triple-A Columbus team. He had a good season, earning 10 saves. The Guardians called him up to the major league team several times in August and September 2024. He pitched in a few games before being sent back to the minor leagues. He became a free agent again in October 2024.
New Teams in 2025
In December 2024, Gose signed a minor league contract with the New York Mets. He pitched for their Triple-A team, the Syracuse Mets. The Mets released him in June 2025.
Just a few days later, in June 2025, Gose signed a minor league contract with the Arizona Diamondbacks.
International Baseball
In May 2021, Anthony Gose was chosen to play for the United States national baseball team. This team was trying to qualify for baseball at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. After they qualified, he was named to the Olympic team. The U.S. team won the silver medal at the Olympics, losing to Japan in the final game. Gose also played for the U.S. team in the 2024 WBSC Premier12 tournament.
