Anthony Cornelius Hamilton (born January 28, 1971) is an American singer and songwriter. He grew up in Charlotte, North Carolina. He became famous for his soulful voice and hit songs.
Anthony Hamilton first signed with Uptown Records in the 1990s. He later gained a lot of attention for his singing on the song "Po' Folks" by Nappy Roots in 2002. This song was very popular and helped him get a record deal with So So Def Recordings.
His second album, Comin' from Where I'm From (2003), was a huge success. It sold over a million copies and was nominated for four Grammy Awards. The album included his famous song "Charlene". His next albums, Ain't Nobody Worryin' (2005) and The Point of It All (2008), also sold very well.
Anthony Hamilton has won one Grammy Award and has been nominated 12 times. He is also known for his song "Freedom," which he sang with Elayna Boynton for the movie Django Unchained in 2012.

Anthony Hamilton's Music Journey
Anthony Hamilton started singing in his church choir when he was 17. He went to South Mecklenburg High School and was part of their award-winning choir. In 1992, he met producer Mark Sparks, who encouraged him to move to New York City. There, he signed with Andre Harrell's Uptown Records. He recorded an album called XTC in 1996, but it was never officially released.
In 1999, Anthony Hamilton helped write the hit song "U Know What's Up" for singer Donell Jones. In 2000, he joined soul singer D'Angelo's world tour as a backup singer. This helped him gain more experience in the music world.

Later Career and Success
In 2002, Anthony Hamilton also appeared on Tupac Shakur's album Better Dayz. His first official album, Comin' From Where I'm From, came out in 2003. This album featured his big hit song "Charlene."
He also sang on Jadakiss's popular song "Why" in 2004. This song reached number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. His album Ain't Nobody Worryin was released in December 2005 and quickly became a gold-certified album.
Anthony Hamilton has appeared on many TV shows and in movies. He was a musical guest on Dave Chappelle's show Chappelle's Show. He also had a small role as a soul singer in the movie American Gangster. In 2008, he performed a tribute to Al Green at the BET Awards.
In 2011, he sang with Jill Scott on her song "So In Love," which was number one on the Urban adult contemporary charts for 19 weeks. In 2012, he sang "Freedom" with Elayna Boynton for the movie Django Unchained.

He married his background singer, Tarsha McMillan, in 2005 after they had been dating since 2003. In 2010, they welcomed twin boys. In 2012, they had another son. In 2015, after 10 years of marriage, they announced they were getting a divorce.
