Antti Juhani Rinne (born on November 3, 1962) is a Finnish politician. He held important roles in Finland's government. He was the Prime Minister of Finland from June to December 2019. Before that, he served as the Speaker of the Parliament of Finland for a short time in 2019. He also led the Social Democratic Party, a major political party, from 2014 to 2020.

Early Life and Career
Antti Rinne studied law and earned a degree from the University of Helsinki. Before becoming a politician, he worked as a leader for several trade unions. Trade unions are groups that help workers with their rights and working conditions. He led the Union of Private Sector Professionals from 2002 to 2005. Later, he led the Union of Salaried Employees and Trade Union Pro.
Political Journey
Becoming a Party Leader
Antti Rinne became the leader of the Social Democratic Party of Finland (SDP) on May 9, 2014. He won against the previous leader, Jutta Urpilainen. In 2017, the party members chose him again to lead them for a second time.
Roles in Government
From 2014 to 2015, Rinne served as the Minister of Finance. This role involves managing the country's money and economy. During the same period, he was also the Deputy Prime Minister of Finland. He became a Member of Parliament in 2015 and served until 2023.
Prime Minister of Finland
In the 2019 Finnish parliamentary election, Antti Rinne led the Social Democrats to win the most votes. After the election, he briefly served as the Speaker of Parliament. On June 6, 2019, he was appointed as the Prime Minister of Finland. As Prime Minister, he led the country's government.
Resignation and Later Roles
Antti Rinne and his government resigned on December 3, 2019. This happened because the Centre Party, which was part of his government, stopped supporting him. This decision came after a postal strike in Finland. President Sauli Niinistö asked Rinne to continue leading a temporary government until a new one could be formed.
On December 10, 2019, Sanna Marin became the new Prime Minister of Finland. The next day, on December 11, 2019, Rinne was elected as the First Deputy Speaker of the Parliament. He held this position until December 2020.
In the 2023 Finnish parliamentary election, Antti Rinne ran for re-election but did not win a seat in Parliament. In August 2023, he started a new role as the General Secretary of SAMAK. SAMAK is a cooperation committee for Nordic social democratic parties and trade unions.
Awards and Recognition
In 2024, Antti Rinne received a medal of merit from the Swedish Assembly of Finland. This award recognized his contributions.
