Uusimaa facts for kids
Uusimaa (also called Uudenmaan maakunta) is a region in southern Finland. It is right next to the Gulf of Finland. Its neighbors are Southwest Finland, Kanta-Häme, Päijänne Tavastia, and Kymenlaakso.
A very large number of people in Finland live in Uusimaa. Over 1.5 million people lived here in 2013. Even though many people live here, Uusimaa is only about 3% of Finland's total land area.
Understanding Uusimaa's Nature
The ground in Uusimaa is made of very old, hard rock. This includes types of rock called granite and gneiss. These rocks form the base of the land.
