Aquarius (♒︎) is the eleventh astrological sign in the zodiac. Its name comes from a Latin word meaning "water-bearer." This sign is linked to the constellation Aquarius. If you follow the tropical zodiac, the Sun is in the Aquarius sign from about January 20 to February 18 each year.
The Myth of the Water-Bearer
The water carrier symbol for Aquarius comes from an old Greek myth. It tells the story of Ganymede, a very handsome young man from a place called Phrygia. Ganymede was the son of King Tros of Troy.
One day, while Ganymede was looking after his father's sheep on Mount Ida, Zeus, the king of the gods, saw him. Zeus fell in love with Ganymede. He changed into a large bird and flew down to the mountain. Zeus then carried Ganymede away to live in the heavens. Since then, Ganymede has served as the cupbearer for the gods. He pours their drinks for them.
The Aquarius Constellation
The Aquarius constellation is a group of stars you can see in the sky during winter in the northern part of the world. It is located near other constellations like Pisces and Cetus.
Aquarius is special because it is the point from which four different meteor showers appear to come. The biggest of these is called the Southern Delta Aquariids. You can usually see this meteor shower in late July and early August.
