Aquila was once a small town, known as a 'municipality,' located in the Blenio district. This area is part of the canton of Ticino in Switzerland.
In 2005, officials decided that Aquila would join with some nearby towns. These towns were Campo Blenio, Ghirone, Olivone, and Torre. They all came together to form a new, bigger municipality called Blenio. This change officially happened on October 22, 2006.
