Torre was once a small town, known as a municipality, located in the Blenio area of Ticino, a canton in Switzerland. Think of a municipality as a local government area, like a town or a small city, and a canton as one of the states that make up Switzerland.
What Happened to Torre?
Torre is no longer a separate municipality. On January 25, 2005, the officials in the canton of Ticino decided that Torre would join with several other nearby municipalities. These were Aquila, Campo Blenio, Ghirone, and Olivone.
Forming a New Municipality
The idea was to create one larger municipality called Blenio. This change officially happened on October 22, 2006. So, Torre became part of this new, bigger community. This kind of merger can happen to make local government more efficient or to combine resources.
